Hi, i just bought Sapphire 4870 card and it crashes constantly in games, especially in Age of Conan. Similar way like this. Sometimes just brown vertical lines.

I have tried: Disabling powerplay, adjusting fans, underclocking, catalysts from 8.6 to 8.9.
My comp: Q6600, Asus P5k, 4x1 Kingston pc-6400 rams, Corsair 520HX PSU, Vista 64 Ultimate. Tried also cleaning drivers with drivercleaner which not helped.. Just cant figure out what makes it crash like that. I think that 520hx is enough?

Thanks :)

Installed new realtek drivers, it didnt helped :/. Then uninstalled Catalyst Control Center and no crashes since :) Too bad that ati tray tool wont work with Vista 64, so i dont know what "control" software to use. Anyone else got same problem and uninstalling CCC fixed it? Very odd fix :D

Thanks for answering :)

I think when he took CCC out it disabled the power play.I would say try the July 24th Sapphire bios (I am running it on mine with no problems) or try FastMix 1083 bios.

What are your temps? Driver Sweeper works best with Vista 64bit. The 520hx may or may not be enough. Do you OC the heck out of your system?

No overclock at all. Temps are fine, 50% fans speed, q6600 is around 55-60 degrees. 520HX is listed in atis "supported" psu list atleast. Anyone else having 4870 and 520HX?

I have a Sapphire and it works ok, like I said try flashing another bios but that psu could be the problem.

Say is your card Blue or Red ?I wonder if Sapphire has a problem using there design for the stock 4870 and they would be the blue pcb and made run when they did the toxic`s.I still agree with Fastmix try the july24 th bios or the 1083 both ran run fine on my Sappy card and my Palit.

PS
Also just for the heck of it update your mobo bios too.

what are your VRM temps on load?
download GPU-Z to have a look at these...
My card temp is reasonable but my VRM temps are insane (going up to 110c on load if I dont do the fan fix)... this could be causing the issue.

have you tried running the fan at a much higher fixed speed?

you have to update bios or exchange card, there are faulty series of saphire 4870 and if u wont flash bios it will crash no matter what. I had 1 of those faulty cards and i returned it. Check sapphire website for proper bios but be careful with flashing, its tricky ;)
