the point is that the i7 never was (shit, i dont know enough english, trying to find a word) a gaming processor, i mean, all reviews and articles show that were u gain performance is on editing, compressing, cad, that sort of things, i recall a sentence from the occ review "gamers may find dissapointed from the low gain that the i7 have on games" or something like that.

K10 or K10.5 will never be able to compete to 45nm Core 2 Quads in a clock to clock point, but in a price vs performance, this is a GREAT LEAP FOR AMD.

Then why do they market it as one? I know I will never need 8 threads for a long time. I am fine with 2 so triple core looks best for me

I've never seen Intel market the i7 as a gaming proc. It can do gaming but it's meant for higher level programs. :ohwell:

saying that all we need to know is price, heat, energy efficiency and then if it is anywhere near i7 on performance its done a good job! if i7 just beats it on performance but amd is everything else then its done its job perfect

also factor in the price of ram and motherboard, other features

AMD are all ways known for being more efficient and are now trying to out price

intel have taken over as the speed kings but a bit more pricey

the old intels are still a good choice for performance speed wise

the new i5 will set out how intel will do, intel have just changed to a new architecture not based on the last one it might take till the next set of cpus to get more efficient i mean these have introduced for intel L3 cache and on the cpu memory controllers

come on, you are not going to believe that, the core i7 could be marketed as a gaming processor but is not for that, they say u have a 40% gain in gaming, check the reviews, ITS FALSE. but when it comes to doing winrar, cad, maya and the sort is where the gain is.

in change the amd phenom x2 940 be could be a gaming cpu as it has an unlocked multiplier, it REALLY HAVE GAINS OVER PREVIOUS PHENOMS and likely it will be cheaper than intel counter parts.

maybe in some years we would actually use 8 threads but for me intel is going for a path that the people wont go and amd is taking the right path.

what im trying to say is that even if intel market it as a gaming cpu, is not one and gamers should know and most gamers are going to know it because they research and look for the bang for the buck.

It certainly ISN'T false in multi gpu (high end) setups.

I remember reading that when was first posted.
Would not be nice if Intel would release Q6600 at 45nm meaning should be cheaper that 65nm counterpart (less silicon). 45nm = Q6600 capable of 4GHz without problem and price round 100$.
I would definitely buy that :toast:

Two things.

1) Memory (as was pointed out already)
2) Price point.

Until I see see tests done on even footing and see what the prices will actually end up its still not possible to say what will be the better CPU......

even if its insane 8 threads can unbottleneck a couple of 4870 x2, its not worth it for a gaming processor. an overclocked core 2 quad is more than enough. GAMERS WANT BANG FOR THE FU!@#$%IN BUCK

no and i really doubt that intel is going to drop prices to that point unless the phenom 2 put intel in a bad situation, thing that altough is possible, its very unprobrably to happen

currently i have a amd 64 opteron 170, 2gb ram & 8800 GT's in SLi and am wondering whether to go for i7 or not, it costs alot more than C2D but if i go with C2D i wont be able to upgrade anymore since its on its way out.

If you turn off Hyper Threading you see a much larger boost in games and single core ops.
