Hello Guys,

It has been a while since I've been here. Work, life, and general WTFs have been keeping me busy. Man, is it hard. Anywho... on to the topic.

Recently in 2008, HyperTransport 3.1 was ratified. Meaning, speeds have been increased from 2.6 GHz to 3.2 GHz. Well, some of you guys might be thinking 'OK... and?' Current AM3 specifications list HT 3.0 as it's interconnect--it only provides speeds of up to 2.6 GHz.

There's good news, though. AM3+ will not be coming out; they updated the current specifications to include both HT 3.0 and 3.1, which bumps the speed to 3.2 GHz. That makes a diference of around 10 GB/s bi-directionally. Great news for those planning to buy an AM3 setup (i.e. Dragon). I am one of those who will be doing so around April. I just wanted to update everyone on the current changes on this platform. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves. Honestly, I would of been pissed if they released AM3+ after I bought an AM3 platform.

Eh, I'm happy with my rig. I'm getting $150 sometime within the next two weeks and I was gonna use it to buy parts for my computer and use parts from it and other parts laying around to build a decent second rig, but I don't think I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna hold on to it and stash it with the rest of my little bit of loot.

Happy note: I got my memory running at over 950MHz... if only my processor did 3GHz, I could have 1000MHz

Agreed. Where's the info from?

I read the HT spec changes here, so I naturally asked a buddy of mine over at AMD. I cannot state what he does, but he's in the 'know'. The spec was changed to accommodate the newer HT protocol.

EDIT: I just hit the wiki page for it. It has also been updated with the spec changes.
Wiki page

Since the AM3 processors have yet to come out, they have more than enough time to add this. Hopefully, they don't pull a dick move and push out the first batch with 3.0 and call it value. On second thought, that might be good for some folks.

yea! whats ur steam addy???

This revision to HT brings the bandwidth to about equal. They (QPI and HT) are both rated at 6.4 GT/s. All that's left is to wait and see what comes out of it.

i7 had the advantage of a faster bus speed. With this new revision, we should see AMD numbers shoot up. Before checking up on this info, I was pretty close to getting an i7 setup. Because of AMD decreasing the performance gap and having cheaper prices, Intel will start to slash prices. This is great for those who have their mind set on an Intel rig. It's good news for all!
