Hello Guys,
It has been a while since I've been here. Work, life, and general WTFs have been keeping me busy. Man, is it hard. Anywho... on to the topic.
Recently in 2008, HyperTransport 3.1 was ratified. Meaning, speeds have been increased from 2.6 GHz to 3.2 GHz. Well, some of you guys might be thinking 'OK... and?' Current AM3 specifications list HT 3.0 as it's interconnect--it only provides speeds of up to 2.6 GHz.
There's good news, though. AM3+ will not be coming out; they updated the current specifications to include both HT 3.0 and 3.1, which bumps the speed to 3.2 GHz. That makes a diference of around 10 GB/s bi-directionally. Great news for those planning to buy an AM3 setup (i.e. Dragon). I am one of those who will be doing so around April. I just wanted to update everyone on the current changes on this platform. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves. Honestly, I would of been pissed if they released AM3+ after I bought an AM3 platform.
