Here is my prediction.

This will be a 10 to 15% increase across the board. However they will hit Nvidia with the big guns when they drop the 300 series on us.

Theoretically its performance should at least be twice that of the 4870, everything gets doubled inside the chip according to rumors...

10% did the 4890 and more 10% if clocked @ 1Ghz

Who said anything about the review going out tomorrow?

Only information I can find is the news saying that they are announcing it tomorrow and that reviews will be ~2 weeks later?

Evergreen's unveiling will take place at the USS Hornet, a decommissioned US Navy aircraft-carrier turned heritage museum. The location and timing of the event holds symbolism with the Patriots & Heroes Week (September 5~11th). As for what happens after the 10th, it is indicated that performance evaluations, (p)reviews, could start pouring in two weeks later (around September 24). Stores will have stocked these graphics cards as they deck up shelves with Windows 7 copies.

hmmm that is quite a bit later than I expected... At least the specs will be known tomorrow. that will give at the very least a broad idea of how the cards will perform. I am hoping for double performance, but who knows.

Actually thats to be expected, since they are announcing it with all the secrecy that has been, they probably will only start shipping samples for reviewers after tomorrow or latter and then well have to wait for the time reviewers take to do their thing...

Ill wait, and its not like im in a hurry for a new card, so far my rig allows me to play 80% of the games in max details...
But depending on prices and quality of the material we will see...

I tell you what guys I'm glad I sold my rig in my specs, because a HD4870 can't play crysis on high settings 1280 x1024 let alone very high D:

Hopefully the HD5870 will do better XD

How many FPS?
Very high was running 25fps average but would dip down to 15 fps during firefights.

made it unplayable, if it was consistent its not so bad.

I played crysis on high (i think) on my rig, besides some slowdowns here and there it was great...
Haven't played anything else that power demanding and i wont play it anymore so...

Just saw the pics of Cypress on the main site, it looks awesome...

pic5870 thumb1 First Exclusive Details and Images of the unreleased HD 5870

According to our own sources, the new HD 5870 offers over 1600 Stream processors. Amazingly AMD doubled the number of SIMD units from 10 to 20. Since every SIMD unit contains 16 5-D units and a Quad-TMU overall, that means we count 1600 stream processors and 80 TMUs. We are talking about a new videocard whose core speed is at 850 MHz and whose 256-bit GDDR5 runs at 1200 MHz – all for the suggested retail of $399! AMD is expecting HD 5870 to come close to the performance of a HD 4870-X2 or GTX 295.

There is a new feature that is called “eyefinity” which means that 3 LCDs can be simultaneously supported at 2560×1600, with options for future cards to support up to six LCDS!!

The HD 5870 die size is slightly over 330 MM2 and packed with over 2 billion transistors. This translates into one beast of a card with just over 150 GB/second bandwidth. It is very likely that the 8X + 8X PCIe CrossFire slots of the new p55 motherboards for Core i5 will become saturated with two of them.

What is outstanding is that we are hearing that the HD 5870 will perform at just over 26 watts at idle and peak below 190 watts maximum!! That is quite a challenge for Nvidia to meet or beat in their own upcoming GT 300 series as the performance to watt ratio is outstanding.

What is also new to watch for in HD 58X0 series besides DX11 capability is that there is a new AA/AF algorithm, where everything on the render back end has been doubled. As a benefit for gamers, that means much less of a performance hit when going from no AA to 4xAA or perhaps even from 4xAA to 8xAA.

The new HD 5850 will launch on September 23 also. We hear it is priced below $299. HD 5850 will sport 1440 stream processors and it will have lower clockspeeds than it’s big brother. We are hearing somewhere around 700/1000 MHz and it can also display simultaneously on 3 LCDs at up to 2560×1600 resolution.

Finally, you can expect the HD 5870-X2 to be released in the second half of October.

You heard it here at AlienBabelTech first. And we also think that you may be pleasantly surprised when you actually get your hands on one.
Source

So according to them:

HD5870:
- DX11
- 2 billion transistors
- 1600 stream processors (20 SIMD units)
- 80 TMUs
- 850MHz core clock
- 4800MHz GDDR5
- Triple monitor output (with support for something like Matrox's Surround Gaming, which they call "Eyefinity")
- 26W idle, 190W peak
- $399

HD5850
- Same GPU as HD5870 with disabled units
- 1440 stream processors (18 SIMD units)
- 700MHz core clock
- 4000MHz GDDR5
- $299

I find these specs a little "too good to be true". To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the HD5870 was nothing more than a HD4890 with DX11 shaders. It's not like the gaming market is demanding for this much power.

If that were the case I would think the 5870's GPU to be smaller than 330 mm². If the specs are true I think the 5870 will be twice the performance of the 4870. Hopefully we'll know for sure tomorrow. If the 5870 has the same performance as the 4890 with DX11 anyone would be a fool to shell out 400 bucks for one.

Like I said before, I agree with erocker here, last 3 gens of cards have doubled performance with the top end cards, no reason for that trend not to continue especially when the current gen of cards has been out for almost a year and a half.

That's a ludicrous bump in specs.

Not sure if I can afford a 870 though : [

HD 5850 will sport 1440 stream processors and it will have lower clockspeeds than its big brother.

(Joe Wilson voice) YOU LIE!

awh, well at least we know the specs, which are exactly what rumors have been pointing at. but dam i was hoping they'd shipped the card to review sites already. you'd think they'd want to get performance numbers out and take control of the market ASAP. some may say the prices are high, but honestly their performance is going to blow everything currently available out of the water besides the HD 4870x2 and GTX 295. Though i am curious if the ROP's did indeed double to 32 as was rumored.

I think its going to outperform the HD 4870x2. one obvious reason is the 5870 has higher clocks, and by a decent margin esp on memory. 2nd reason is that the 5870 is a single GPU with 80TMU's and 1600SPU's, whereas the HD 4870x2 is still 2 GPU's with half the power working together. Against the GTX 295 for the performance crown though i'm not sure, i think if ATI have re-worked the efficiency of the shaders and improved the performance per hert then the 5870 will also surpass the GTX 295, if not i think it'll be very close. However i don't think the GTX 295 will last much longer even if they perform approx. the same as the GTX 295 is still $469 at the cheapest on newegg, it has more power consumption at load and by far at idle. I am also going to assume with such low power specs it'll be much cooler than the GTX 295.

This definitely seems like a win for ATI imo but we shall see when benches are released.
