See system specs... but with different GPU, now have MSI X1900XTX

3DMark05 = ~8000
3DMark06 = ~4480

Both NON-Pro 3DMark versions... what is going on here??? ATITool is NOT part of the equation (never installed) & all stock speeds in CCC.

...I expected 05 to be much higher and 06 to be lower, from all benchmarks I've seen.

Yeah, something's seriously wrong here.

That cpu is a little slow for an x1900xtx, but that alone wouldn't cause such low scores. How much ram is installed? Your system specs doesn't say. At least 1gb is needed to do well.

Is this on a fresh install of xp? how many processes are running when you open the task manager, and how much memory is being used? The problem could be that the system is running out of physical ram, and using the pagefile, which is extremely slow in comparison.

Totally clean XP install... see below. Ram = 1.5 GB DC 2x512 and 2x256, all matched.

AA/AF or Vsync forced by driver?

No.

I have come to the conclusion that this card is defective, or the PSU. Anything slightly over 2D stock speeds fails in ATITool - that was on another clean HDD with WinXP I installed this afternoon.

Here's the tell: If I raise the GPU/Mem speed in CCC, the scores don't change, no matter what. So it's using the 2D clocks - that's all I can assume. I also ran the clock optimization in CCC and it reverted right back to stock.

I did see a difference when I OC'd the CPU, but only as you would expect.

Card and CPU have RMA's to NewEgg. Plug for Newegg: Online RMA, Newegg was going to charge me a $65 restock fee (card delivered 5 days ago), but as soon as I chatted with an on-line rep, they waived the fee without argue. Good shit - I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the years, and that will continue! Search is still on.

i think its your system is holding back the 2005 score.. 2005 is becoming cpu/system bottlenecked around the 8000 mark.. the stock 2005 resolution is too low.. it does not load the grfx card enough..

an example of a 2005 score with my 1900xtx and amd cpu at say 2.4 gig.. score just over 10.000.. with my cpu up at 3.2 gig i get 12.500..

once the card gets too good 2005 stops being a grfx card benchmark and becomes a cpu/system one..

with 2006 the grfx card load is far higher and u are getting a grfx card benchmark again..

your low 2005 score wont reflect in real life games thow cos u will load the card more grfx wise..

in essence 2005 scores much over 8000 do not represent real life gaming any more.. in real life your system wont bottleneck your card much.. but if u run too low a resolution with very high framerates it will..

try 2003 it will get worse and 2001 even worse.. u have the same card as me but in 2001 i will get 33.000 u will be lucky to get 23.000..

this dosnt reflect real life games thow.. unless u run settings that give u 600 frames per second.. he he he.. thats what 2001 wizzes past at on my system..

Started at 3.0GHz... 7000. Upclocked the CPU to 3.7GHz... 7400.

I think the most important thing is that even CCC won't let me past BIOS stock speeds in the speed test, plus the fact when I force the clocks above stock, benchmarks don't improve - it's still defaulting back to the 2D clocks. - the card is defective, or fails becuase of current draw from the PSU

I highly stress that fact the you NEED a 500W or better power supply for anything above an X1800GTO. Even as good as antec is, at 430W you are below the required power supply.

With the X1900XTX, I also upgraded to a 580W Hiper PSU... so my system stats are out of date. But I'm still wondering if that if the Hiper PSU is part of the problem, so I am returning both.

I have an X1800gto oc'd to 725/801 and a p4 550 3.4 currently @ only 3.5, just as a little comparison i score around 4500-4600 on 3d06 and 8500-8600 on 3d05. I know we cant really compare this to your X1900xtx @ default but i run all this with the same psu as you with absolutly no probs, so i'm sure it should be enough for your system. It could be faulty but no way is it underpowered. :)

Rubbish! My Antec 350W Smartpower 2.0 has no problems at all powering this system

AMD 3200+ @ 2500MHz
2048MB DDR667 @ 833MHz
Powercolor X1900GT
ASUS M2N-E
320GB SATA2 7200rpm
DVD-Writer
2x120mm chassis fans

It is rock solid when it comes to stability. I have tried a friends Hiper 530W PSU to see if i could OC better or get more 3d marks but, NO DIFFERENCE. Another friend has a 350W Seasonic for a similar system but with more OC and his system is stable too.

Its not the watt that counts on a PSU, its the quality.

your antec likely cant handle the load, its just weak. u need a psu with a minimum of 34A on its 12v rail these days.

Yeah, my X1800XT draws 30A of power. 30!!!!! If your car needs a 600 cranking amp battery, technicly you CAN put a 300 cranking amp battery in and it will start, but the battery will die much quicker and leave you stranded.

ok tell me if this is wrong but refer to my system specs for 'specs', my 3d mark05 score is about 9200, and i just got a score of 3424 in 06, take note i only have oNe StIck of ram.

What is holding my system back pLz help im afraid its the crossfire setup with 2 different card families that is the problem.

my slave card doesnt get within 12 degrees celcius of what it used to meaning its not being used as much as it should.

any ideas?

try it with only the 2x512 installed. thats prolly giving you issues along with the cpu you are running. my buddies x1800xt/3200+/2x512mb rig hits 4400 06 8200 05.

yes.. well.. if u like but your 1800 only really draws 8 or so amps at the most.. my 1900xtx draws about 10 amps.. 120 watts at 12 volt equals 10 amps..
