Question Cooler and Ram suggestions for the UD3R

Well now that the board choice is done, would ask what some DDR2 choices are from experience's with the G/B UD3R.

CPU cooler's used would be nice to look over.

Also really really want to use my Ninja RevB also

Don't really need a bench king, just some solid performance.

Would like to go with 8GB if it's not a "complete" loss of performance.

I know that I have been very lucky to have used all 4 Dimm sockets on this AI-7, and the Conroe865PE, but that was mostly from trial's of a few High end sticks, in which the current OCZ 3200ELPT Rev2 have performed flawless for many years at 2.2.2.5 w/PAT.

Also, If you have/know of success with all 4 slots used please share.

I understand all about the pros&cons for 8GB vs 4GB, 2vs4 slots, just don't want to waste a lot for nothing.

Thanks for all input

Lol CPU cooler and ram combo's

Seen those GSkills that look really cool and seem to have good timings on them.

Wouldn't it be better to get faster ram instead of overclocking stock[1066] ram?

3.0 is a given on this chip from the Asrock, so I'd be able to hit 1200+ easy and would hope for 1600 FSB/Ram clocking............................

For the CPU cooler, all of these are good choices for the price:

Scythe Mugen 2
OCZ Vendetta 2
Xigmatek Dark Knight (or HDT-S1283)

If you are willing to spend more, the Prolimatech Megahalems is probably the best air cooler there is. I can't help you much with the RAM, I usually pick out the cheapest brand-name kit in the size I want (I picked up the cheapest 4GB kit of DDR2 for my latest build, Corsair DDR2 800, timings are very loose at 5-5-5-18, but whatever, it works and it was $36 from TigerDirect)

Thank you, I take it they do fit with no ram interference
Aren't these "supposedly" just a Ninja ripoff per'se?

What about the Gskill F2-9600CL5D, their 1200Mhz, and CL5?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231201

Surly they would boot at stock[1066] and give me a lot of headroom.......
If that "head" is not too tall for a good cooler.

Trying to use the pic's from theonedub's sale page to compare how tall they are.

Any firsthand comments about interference or performance?

Pricey! Give me a day or two and I can: 1) measure the RAM and tell you the exact height and 2) Let you know if I can sell you my 1100mhz set in my FS thread (small chance, but still)

Making one last push for i7 lol

They are approx 2.2in tall (I could not find a ruler for the life of me), for size reference, they are the same height as the cap of a standard Sharpie. Unfortunately they have found a new home

Thanks for the cap's up That'll give me some sizing guides for the cooler!

I cant believe that a bunch of guru's here haven't chimed in on this topic about killer ram for it.

I'm still confused about what to do for Ram.
1066 would be stock clock so I thought that the fastest 1200 [5.5.5.15]ie.. Gskills would be better than overclocking same ram timings of 1066 speed?[clocking slowr ram=looser timings]

Also would I want "low" voltage ram or regular 2.x ram?

Decided on Mushkin Enhanced Redline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996593 - Retail
They have a very high rating, and seem to fit in where I need them, next to my Ninja!!

Not too helpful as I'm not really pushing it or have done any extensive testing. But I am running a UD3R with 8GB and a Ninja Rev B (fanless, but with decent case flow).

Running: MP3's, Chrome, WGC on both cores.

Looks like some great timings for all 4 dimm slots!
That seems to be good fanless temps also!
After a run w/cinebench 10 my temps only hit 48c max, not much of testing here also yet, but happy if fit good, and decent temps for 3.2, sys 32c and cpu 23c go figure
