Have you tried running both cards in the number 1 slot by themselves to make sure both cards work?

nevermind, I see you tried that already, so I'm gonna agree with the others here and say it's a problem with that number 2 slot.

That seems to be the consensice. There is an indicator light that is supposed to detect a defective card but I'm not getting any warning so I don't know for sure if it is indeed the slot. Dand I wish I had a slot tester right about now.

Ok I thought I"d update you all on my progress. NONE

I reset the CMOS, re-checked my BIOS, then I removed every driver and program to do with ATI as per the instructions on the site here.

I removed all the cables from everything and started putting the system back together piece by piece justt to see if I hade missed something when I put this machine together.

It's really clean now. Anywho, I installed the drives as per the instructions on the site and it still won't recognize the card. Now not being the type of person to take a hammer to the sucker at this point, I took the PCI E power cables off the bottom card to see what would happen.

Holy crap it sounded like it ws going to take off. I've never heard a fan go that fast so I know it is getting power. Is it enough I don't know but even if it wasn't, wouldn't device manager see it anyway?

So there you go, thats where I'm at. I have no idea what to do from here short of sending the motherboard out to be tested if that is indeed what the problem is or getting another board similar to the one I have ( good luck )
and trying that.

ok update,
I got a speaker for my motherboard and then re-installed the cards one at a time in the bottom slot and turned on the computer. Both times I got a 1-long beep and 3-short beeps.
I installed both cards and got only the post beep.
Now what?

From Asus:

Bad video card or slot.

Yes I agree with the codes I guess. must be the slot. both cards work in the top slot.

I moved my pci express x1 network card down to that slot it it worked. mind you the card is not the full length of the slot.

Bad luck on that PCI E slot issue. I wish there was something that I could do to help you. Hey I have a spare CFire P5K board lying around wanna have it?

Randyman - Received your details. Hope you got the pics. Depending on how long it takes to get it there hopefully it will be pretty soon. I'll be sending it on Monday so, how long is that? Umm it has to be Monday cause I don't have access for posting until then, but it should be there pretty soon. I just hope you enjoy it!
