Thanks mate.
For now I'm happy with what I have, but who knows, maybe I'll try it someday.

It's bizarre to me that the ram on 5770's oc so well, are they not the same chips as on a 5870?

Download AMD GPU clock Tool.

Then use it to set your frequencies.
Use MSI AFter Burnier 1.3.0 to conrol your voltage.
Use the Catylst Control for 3d settings.
This method truely sucks IMO, having to use a combo of apps jsut to get speed/vcore/fan speed, its not fun.

Also you lose your low power states doing this, the card wont clock back to 157/300.

I was about to say the same thing, I can't get my 5850's RAM above 1300. Also, my performance does not scale properly with the RAM OC, I read about some error-correction overhead issue at higher speeds so maybe its a GDDR5 thing?

Nope they are different the GDDR5 memory chips are made by Hynix and on the 5870/5850 they are Samsung. Here is a better clock and it will go higher

I'm very impressed with this card. I just was gaming with it and it more than enough to play most games maxed when oced to 1000 core/ memory DDR5 5780. The fan was set to auto and does a great job voltage was at 1.26v. I was averaging 50 to 80 frames a second everything maxed in D&D online with high resolution pack.

Only do it when you need the performance.

It's only a matter of using 1 more application.

Not that hard to do. Easy thing is you don't have to flash the BIOS. I've done BIOS flashing before with RBE and it works well if the BIOS matches the card.
If i see the need to flash the HD5850 I will but my overclocking performance is working well.
I will flash a different BIOS if I see a HD5850 that is performing better on an exact same configuration. Then I know there is something else going on besides frequency control. Right now I haven' seen it.

I bet the Hynix ddr5 becomes the standard on the 5870/ 5850 cards imagine how much faster they would be with the same ram as the 5770.

Damn nice OC!!
How much juice on the core to get such a clock? And what about temp/fan speed?

voltage was around 1.312 ..temps hit 63c at the end of Vantage graphic tests,, fan on 100% and 64 degrees Fahrenheit ambient...FurMark crashed the system after 20secs at 50%fan speed, so definitely not playing games with these clocks and fan noise, just for benching

Than ks I had no idea, but one thing I find annoying is I am certian at the end of LAST year someone was already talking 7gbs GDDR5 chips, and were getting them clocked at only 4.8 on a top end card.... that was a little disappointing, guess we have to wait for a 5890 or 5900 for some reallllllly fast GDDR5 on a high end card.

Looks like a beefy score on that 5850, will have to get some tips from you when my reservoir arrives for the gpu.

I read the 5870 asus has a moddable voltage, wondering how hard it'd be to flash.

trying not to be picky but please, list the cpu speed as 3.99ghz or just say 4 since its .01 off.

also, ht on and turbo on? HT makes a big difference? 64bit vista ?

It's ok Freak, like before I'm just contributing. I'm a newb overclocker, just contributing. If hyperthreading and turbo are on by default then I had them on. Otherwise I didn't.

You can call it 3.99 or 4.0, no matter to me. Vista 32? I'm a newb but I7 with 32 bit?
