GTX 260 turning off the monitor in Windows Vista

Hi,

I have a EVGA GTX 260 installed in a system that I build. The motherboad is a DX58S0 using i7 CPU. I am connecting a VGA monitor using a DVI-I to VGA cable.
The first time that I installed windows Vista 64, it did not recognize the NVIDIA Drivers, and just installed a generic VGA drivers. After I installed an update of the NVIDIA Drivers (171), it started to crash because a file named nvlddmkm.sys. I copied from the installation folder to the windows/system32/drivers and stopped having this error, but when I update the Direct X to version 11, and after I restarted the machine, it goes to black screen. After that, I never be able to enter to windows vista againg with the GTX installed. I formatted the disk, and prepared a clean Windos Vista installation and it goes to hibernation the monitor after the welcome windows screen appears. I tried to install other OS, and nothing worked.

A friend of mine, borrowmed another video card, and it let me install the windows vista. But when I installed again the GTX, it goes to hibernation the screen and turning off.

I have the assumption that maybe the bios of the video card is the problem. Does anybody experience this situation?

I already updated the last version of the BIOS Motherboard.

Regards

I'm thinking it may be something wrong with the monitor. Have you tried a different one?

try to uninstall the driver, then get the 182.50 driver, i've always had good experince with that one, sometimes it can be something with the driver.

System Specs

Try switching the cable to the other port on the video card.

If that card is new, it is DOA and you should RMA it. if it is fairly new, the problem may have something to do with Vista + DX11. I don't think that was an official patch and it is pointless because your hardware doesn't support it anyway. So start with removing that patch or update or whatever gave your system DX11. Then remove all the drivers. Reinstall the card, make sure it is fully seated in the PCIe slot and there is no dirt on the metal prongs (card and mobo). Then turn the computer on. It should recognize the card and install the drivers for you. If not, install the latest drivers yourself.

171 is way too old and no support for GTX 200 series I believe, my 9600GT's came with 174's.
try the 18x.xx or 191.07 WHQL which you can download off NV website.
And you will have to reinstall driver after change your video card, which may explain why your friends' rig can't recognize your card. I think your card is fine.

I would try new drivers first, and see if that fixes the problem. If any other card works, then the cable is not the issue nor the monitor. Try new drivers, if that don't work, try a differently DVI slot. If that don't work, I don't know what would. The card is defective in that case.
