TriFire 5870's vs 285TriSLI benched

I came across this from a link over at EVGA forums, look how the 5870's scale(and to think with limited driver support!)

now if only every game release need not wait for a few months to patch / driver fix for low fps bugs..

What do you mean by that?
I'm new into the pc gaming realm (SWTOR has brought me into it whenever that releases) so I'm used to consoles where everything pretty much works right out the get go. Is there a more predominant chip (nvidia vs ati) that causes these or is it the games themselves regardless of what graphics card you have?
