Windows Vista Clean Installation

Hey guys,

Today I did a clean installation with a Vista Ultimate Upgrade cd and I noticed that my old files did not get deleted and that I still have the same amount of memory space as before the installation.

How is that possible, is it because is used an Upgrade CD?

You didn't format. All of your old files are in a folder called Window.old

If you don't want any of them, yes.

Not in my experience. If you install multiple times without formatting, it starts giving you alternate folder names, but the few times I did an in-place install using Vista or 7, absolutely everything went into the Windows.old folder, program files, Windows folder and all.

Windows only ever gave my Windows.000 when doing an in-place install with XP.

What I was telling you was Vista has never given me a folder called Windows.000. Only XP has.

Hey guys I have another question.

I just bought a WD Caviar Black 500GB 7200 RPM Cache: 32MB.
Can I still use the Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade cd or do I have to buy a FULL Installation CD in order to install it in the new Hard Drive?

Oops was thinking you adding the drive and it not showing up silly me lol.

Try it .
Make sure the bootup is your DVD drive then the new drive next and install it by inserting the Vista DVD. just to be safe too unplug your other drive when installing so you don't put windows on the wrong drive and just in case reasons..

To do a clean install on a fresh hard drive with Vista on an upgrade disc, you have to follow certain steps. Buying a full install CD would've been easier, but using the upgrade disc only adds more time, so it's not that big of a deal.

Follow the instructions here to do a clean install with an upgrade disc: http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/...a-upgrade-disc
