I need a new monitor...

I already have it/semi installed it. I have to swap out KVMs now and that's going to be a job and a half.

UPS definitely had their fun with the box. About 12 inches on one side was torn back/crunched. The monitor seems good though and I can't pick out any dead pixels. I took pictures of the box before opening it incase it decides to die prematurely.

I'll have to take some pictures of my desk once I get the KVM changed and clean everything up (random junk all over the counters ).


Edit: KVM hooked up. I might take pictures tomorrow.

Go to display settings advanced set font size to 120dpi. And in regular display settings appearance set cleartype on. Use "large icons". Enjoy.

The bulb pointing that direction is out so it is pretty dark--the camera brightened it up so they don't look the best.

Not as good as the CRT but I'll live. It just isn't smooth, especially the mouse and when scrolling.

really? i dont have that problem with my model. i am actully very happy with this LCD.

also, is your setup in a basement? and, im guessing that fire extinguisher is for a nearby fireplace, not all your equipment?

Everyone's eyes are different. If I'm not moving the mouse or scrolling, it looks good. There's no dead pixels or anything like that.

Yes, it is in the basement mostly because of the lower ambient temp. Just my computer and server alone produce more heat than the walls dissipate. Closing the door means it gets toasty in here while leaving it open means it stays cool. It works out great so long as the dehumidifiers keep it relatively dry.

Additionally, the outlet everything is plugged in to has its own dedicated circuit breaker. I've ran 4 computers, one laser printer, and my 500w speakers at once. XD


That extinguisher is new. There was one sitting there before but it needed recharging but it wasn't the rechargeable sort so we recently got 4 rechargeable ones (last week or earlier this week, I think). There is a wood stove to the left of the picture--you can see the brick floor it is sitting on. The stove is rarely used so the extinguisher is mostly for the computers or fighting fires in the utility room. The utility room has its own extinguisher as well so if a fire breaks out in one place, I have at least one extinguisher available on this floor.

cool, i always like to see how people have their computer areas setup. my comps, router, tv, speakers, etc is actually on the second floor where it does get fairly warm in the summer. in the winter tho it is perfect because i can turn the heat off upstairs in the winter. my plan is to setup a lan party area in the unfinished basement since it is nice and large and open. i found out that if i am careful i can actually put a cat6 cable through the old phoneline conduit they made 25 years ago!

I will still recomend IPS monitor- there is no "not as good as CRT" factor. I'm comparing high end CRT 21" NEC 2111FSB (one of the best CRTs ever made) to both expensive IPS (20" 2080UX+) and mainstream (Dell 2209). IPS is simply better than the CRT.

The ADSL bridge, router, another printer, and another computer reside in almost the center of the house for 802.11b/g/n wireless on the router. There's a 75' CAT6 cross-over cable running from up there down to the switch in the picture. Everything is surge protected (including that crossover cable) and/or battery backed up. It works out great having the two branches of the network. In just a matter of a few seconds, I could completely disconnect the two.

Except the fact that LCDs always have delayed response times. CRTs are always instantaneous and complete. Just alt+tabbing, I can see the LCD refresh in broken ways that were instantaneous on the CRT. It bothers me, but there is little I can do about it.
