5830 will be a sweet option if it keeps at least 1280 sp, the gddr5 & 256bits bus.. but i don't understand what will they do with 5890. Only an increase on clocks? Mmm.

I would def go for a 5830 if the price is right and they keep most of the specs of its bigger brothers.

5890? Yeah I can afford that... in three years maybe. The 5870/5970 already hover at around 800-1000 bucks. And whats the point anyways. 5870 in cfx pwns everything already.

Wikipedia says the HD5890 is a different chip with 1600 shaders and 384bit GDDR5 bus.

AMD (or ATI for that matter) has never done a "bigger chip" for high-end, so I guess it's very unlikely.
But a wider memory bus would definitely make the Evergreen a much more balanced and efficient chip, IMO.

EDIT: That SilenX page mentions the HD5890 but no HD4890.
The HD2900XT was a very hot chip, hotter than the HD4850. And yet it says it handles all the HD2XXX fanless, while the HD4850 needs a fan.
In the nVidia side, it says it handles all the Geforce 8xxx series fanless, while the 9800 series need one fan. So the 8800 Ultra is fanless while the 9800GT 55nm needs a fan?

There are too many discrepancies in that graphics card compatibility list, for it to be taken as a "reliable" rumour source.

I don't know what to make of this chart. But here it is anyways. Interesting I suppose.

5830-5860-5890-5990 all with a 384 bit bus. More shaders for the 5860 (replacement for 5850) and the 5890 (replacement for the 5870) Looks like a big 5XXX series refresh.

Wrong. Fake. 384 bits and 1024/2048 MB?? Whoever posted that has no idea...
Fermi specs are still wrong on the wiki too, so it's not exactly the best place to search info on future cards.

EDIT: fermi specs are correct now, but I swear they were wrong 2-3 days ago. Anyway, you get the point.

I'm in agreement. An interesting theory of a GPU roadmap if anything. 28nm fab in Q1 2010 seems to be on the impossible side.

LOL. True. Well spotted. I doubt 28nm will be even ready for late 2010 launch. Q1 2011 maybe.

http://www.tgdaily.com/hardware-features/43732-tsmcs-28nm-process-on-track - Here they say late Q2 for the performance process and tbh they said the same about 40nm. Maybe this time everything goes smooth as butter, but I highly doubt.

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1051805/ibm-globalfoundries-28nm-process-tech - GlobalFoundries is not closer to release 28nm either.

And a 1920 SP / 384 bit card is nt going to happen. That would make the chip the same size as Fermi and goes against AMD strategy of small chips. It's not going to happen, seriously. Higher clocks or no HD5890. HD5830 is posible though.

I don't think 5890 will be released at Q1 2010. It makes no sense to release a 5890 without no major arquitecture improvement. Since I'm sure Amd won't release a new chip so early. It's more likely to release hd 5830 and hd 5950, with faulty cypress xips, that can't even be a 5850. And they will have some more time to solve the stock problem.

This would go well with a passively cooled e5200 on a p35. :D

well, ati have had nearly 5 months to mess around with the cypress chip to squeeze out more performance, and since nvidia are releasing a their new cards in Q1, i can't see why ATi would wait much longer than Q1. But if the hd5890 doesn't hit in Q1, i would definitely think it would in Q2.

Who knows, maybe they are just waiting for some REAL fermi benchmarks like the rest of us, and will scale the hd5890 accordingly :)

well, 40nm has been knocking around for a while now, so i would expect them to have some kind of 28nm process working. But i don't expect a working next gen chip in mass production from ATi until late '10, early '11. Maybe they'll release one of the later hd5xxx's on 28nm earlier in mid '10, Kind of like with the hd4770.

The 5830 has the best price performance ratio of the 5 series cards.

Its on par with the 4890s but with all the benefits of new tech!

but the winning ticket it holds is that its MRSP is LESS then that of 4890s!

means when it first comes out snap them up

We don't have any info on the hd5830 yet do we? regardless, i would think the performance would be a lil' above the hd4890, but not much, in order to keep it out of the hd5850 space :)

I'll gladly sit this one off (5830) till it gets sub $200. At $239 its too close to the launch price of the 5850.

Ah I read around here that it was gonna be in the $230 range. Well if it launches at sub 200 level, it'll be a definite buy over the 5770. Now let us see how it really performs! If you could OC that lil puppy up to 5850 levels, that would be an added bonus! Haha, maybe thats too much asking!

I think it'll all depend on how the prices change after the fermi release. Although, if fermi releases at the rumored extortionate prices, ati can just kick back and just let the money continue to roll in. Or cut prices 10-20%, steamroll nvidia across the board, then sit back and relax.

A £240-260 hd5870 and a £180 hd5850 would demolish anything from nvidia in the UK. If they took 20% off the actual RRP of £279 for the hd5870 (demand is a bitch, we're paying nearly £100 more because of it), then they have an epic winner.

I'm expecting the 5830s to retail @ 150 over here in sunny ole England.

Thanks to damn taxes! lol but still same price as a top end 4890 which is still fair I think.

As they should overclock well, run cooler/dx11 etc etc etc
