that doesnt say fermi is delayed. It says they are about to sell in limited numbers now, and that a good "flow" of cards wont hit till then.

Either fermi is too slow or so fast that it will beat AMD's next gen as well. I'm just guessing but I think it might be give or take on a few games for both cards.

Will W1z get one during "launch day"? I am waiting to see how good Fermi is compared to 5870. My few predictions (an probably everybody else's) are hot chips => low overclocking headroom, 20%< better than 5870, pricey and harder to obtain than HD6850.

indeed, if you have a hd5 series card, a fermi card wont be worth it at all, just overclock. But we knew that anyway when we bought them (i also decided i didn't like how the card was being delayed and thought even if it was a good card, it'll be a long time to wait when an epic card is available right now) :)

Yes good point. I may get another HD 5770 for crossfire or sell my current and get a HD 5870 or 5850 or just wait it out for a new HD 6000 when they come out.

Yes agree we should wait. It would be nice to see ATI drop the price of the HD 5000 cards.

I read somewhere, (however i really cannot remember where i read it) but nvidia said that their new fermi cards will not be as quick in dx 9/10 but will be faster in dx11 (talking on about how the future is dx11 i think)

I do think fermi cars will be faster than the current ATi HD58xx cards, however i dont think ati has sat on their asses for the last few months, they probably have an update of their HD58xx cards just incase fermi is faster.

All im hoping for is lower prices lol ^^

to be honest that'll be nvidias excuse: 'we'll do better in the future, we can't prove that and neither can you disprove it! Ignore those reviews and buy our awesomest cards and conveniently forget that in the 'future' there'll be a far better cards available from amd that'll be cheaper and faster and hand us fermi's ass on a plate!'

I hope ATi drop the prices on the 5xxx series cards the day the 4xx series is released, then a couple of months down the line release the 6xxx series and totally annihalate nVIDIA :rockout:

Hope these cards really has some power behind them.

I may try and go SLI with two GTX 470's.

I am all about optimism but I cannot see why anyone would even consider buying one of these cards with the info that we have about them. I see people saying, oh i bet theyre monsters or I hope they are high performance cards..

if they are only 5-10% "better" than the cheaper alternative then tell me how anyone could justify spending more money on such a low performance increase IF they are heatbombs, do not overclock well because of heat or simply draw to much power?

I'm just trying to understand what people see that i do not see about these cards. Is 5-10% even enough to justify paying these prices?

with the amount of memory, the memory bandwidth and the cuda cores I want to beleive that the 5-10% idea is an underated stamp to keep people in the dark until the real results are released.. as to try and create a WOW effect if people get more than they expect from these cards.

I'm thinking these cards are going to be 3d vision and gpgpu performers for applications that can take advanatge of cuda.. for everything else it will be less of a performer.

i think a 470 to a 5850 would be like comparing a gtx 275 to a ati 4890 and im sure we all know the pros and cons of each card.

and you can get 20% more than that with an OC :) the fact that the gtx480 requires the cooling as standard that only premium ati cards have used in the past (vapor-x) shows that the gtx470/480 won't have much overclocking headroom either.

Yeah true man, What are you running your GPU & Memory speeds at on your HD5870?;)

and you know that how, you should never ever buy a card just because of how it overclocks, that includes the 4xx and 58xx because its nothing but a gamble with overclocking, your card might overclock a certain amount but if you luck out and get a bad core it might not overclock at all pretty much.

and based on the fact that the core on the GTX480 is now said as 700mhz, you should wait for a review before saying anything, because that was unexpected, most expected it was 645, not 700, based on that I can say we don't know enough about these cards to speculate, just wait till next week to get the truth.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
Truth, 700Mhz, with one disabled unit, 295W TDP, a huge fan, runs so hot they had to specify a SLI case to make sure they got cool air, they have been sandbagging on chips to make the 480 in short supply on the release date, six months after it was due out.

Those are facts. With a bit of reasoning we can assume they have heat, yield, performance and other issues. Trying to keep a die that size stable on a PCB with that thermal rating is going to be a killer. Solder migration, PCB warpage, traces cracking and breaking due to power loads and thermal effects.

the only thing I am certain of is the yield issues which is why they disabled a sm, performance, heat and others we don't know about for sure, but the cards at 700mhz should make up for a loss of 1 sm vs them running at 645 with all enabled.

Honestly, the case thing sounds like marketing ploy, like SLI certified memory, etc etc.
