Waiting the real Fermi

is there anyone out there like me who are waiting to see the newest and the latest nvidia kick ass card ??

I just sold yesterday my GTX 285 and the 295 now have the money ready so I'm using the pc with a 8400 GS graphics card my emergency card. :roll:

Someone has confirmed that later this year will see a brand new PCB ?

completely new probably wont be well into next year, but late this year/early next year I do expect some refreshed cards.

in your shoes if I had the cash, wait on a dual GPU GF104 (GTX460) style single card card, it should pack at least 672 sp's if not 768, and have all the might to stomp a GTX480, especially overcocking considered.

Maybe sometime next year they'll have things shrunk down to 28nm and it might work though I think Nvidia is done with GF100. Maybe they'll have something completely new. It's going to be a while and I think most of us have waited long enough for the "real" Fermi. If you like Nvidia, go grab a GTX 470 or two or something...

the GTX480 has 512 sp's present on die with 32 disabled to get the 480 active, at first this was a yeild problem, and it might still be that, but I think Nvidia are saving fully active cores to realease a higher clocked 512 sp card against the 6000 series... who knows how well it will do really....

If that's what they're doing, I don't think thinks will bode too well for nv this round. 32 more shaders and higher clockspeeds aren't going to help against a rehash of the already competitive 5xxx series.

Fermi is done for this year. Do yourself a favour and wait for the AMD 6 series. It will kick ass.

The wait took too long. Gave up on nVidia Fermi a long time ago. Just using them for Physx cards.

Thanks erocker,but i still want the best on the market today so... I will take a EVGA GTX 480 superclocked with backplate then change my 1000 watt Thermaltake power supply ( some 12V rails doesnt work well ) with an Enermax revo+ 950 W.

What do you think?

I have 2x GTX 470's and they're fantastic cards. I really do like the Fermi architecture.

Considering TPU is mostly made up of AMD fanboys, im sure many will disagree.

I've always preffered their style of massive beefy single GPU's. on average they tend to offer better performance than their AMD counterpart, but mostly better minimum framerates, as they usually pack more ROPS and a heartier memory interface.

then when you throw them in SLi it's just bliss. I don't think this round of Fermi was a fail at all, except for being late, other than that they did what they usually do. And, like I've said before, late or not, power hungry/hot or not, they have still sold a shiteload of cards.

Why do you dislike Fermi though?, it's a solid architecture that has been dosed in redundant over exaggerated claims such as ''omfg fermi run to hawt!!!11'' or my personal favorite ''nvidia is teh fail, fermi sux!11''

If your waiting for a GTX4XX with 512sps then stop waiting it almost definitely isn't coming out, even the quadro versions seem to not be coming out, instead nvidia will move to the GF104 style superscalar arch and as its better than the GF100's, 512sp isn't possible on this arch since its 48sp's not 32 in each group, we might see like 768 though.

I like nvidia but I don'tlike these GTX4XX cards, when new architectures are made they're are always problems in the first batch, saying that, I expect the next batch to be good.

i personally don't hate the Fermi architecture. just dislike the GF100 chip. From what i've "seen" they do perform, but i suppose you could say that its lack of performance compared to what i expected is what causes me to dislike it. I expected with twice the shaders, faster memory, more ROP's, that Fermi's fastest card would be roughly 60-80% faster than the GTX 285. It's only like 30-40% faster.

So for me it was the let down in performance that caused me to dislike it, the lack of efficiency in perf/shader compared to GT200. Even the GTX 460, which is a great card for its price, has 96more shaders as well as other benefits over the GTX 285 and unless you overclock it, its just on par with the GTX 285. However, as someone else stated, new arch's always have flaws and issues on the first batch.
