opteron 165 what the hells?? temperature SUPER high

I hadn't used my comp all summer, just my laptop, because we moved. I set my desktop back up at college. and then my CPU is at 55-80 C!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! used to be 22-50 C!!!! so i was like maybe the thermal paste has gone bad, which obviously would never happen, but i did put new paste on anyways. STILL HOT! same mobo, cpu, and fan, so what up compooper?????????!!! the cut off temp was 75 C in the bios and my computer never shut down? I used core temp to monitor my temps before summer and i still used the same program later!!

is fan working, heatsink hot to the touch(be careful), did you use 2 or more apps to measure the temp?

stock!!! was too hot to touch. now it's fine, but i'm not usin much cpu. only used 1 prog, can't find any other that work. BIOS says 37 C tho and thats after i just start up..... should be like room temperature if it hasnt even booted the OS.

i would say that in moving you may have jarred the heatsink loose at one time breaking the seal between the hsf and the cpu and now you have air bubbles or something in the paste

Maybe try reducing your voltage,I think I could run my Opty 175 at 1.125V at stock when I was burning it in.It may help reduce your temps but they do seem high atm,but you will not reach below ambient temps with just air cooling.What is your temps like in your room.

Double check your heatsink and fans,make sure all are ok.Other than that not sure but check your using latest versions of temp monitoring apps.

still hot as hell. could the sensors be busted? maybe the heatsink has become faulty somehow? idk how, still sounds like that fan is spinning fast as usual.

I had the same issue with my Opty 165. It would be cool as hell then all of a sudden just out of the blue one day, idle temps were in the lower 50's. I tried reapplying thermal paste, reapplying the HSF, and nothing I tried worked. Finally, I said piss on it and I decided to upgrade. Got my Q6600 system up and running (which I love to death) and I got the dreaded B3 stepping and its around the same damn temps.

Im hoping that when I get the Q9450 that will all change.

shit man that's what i'm about to do too, upgrade to a core duo or something. i wish my opty worked because any core duo in my price range is prolly not much better than this. does amd have some kind of warrenty?

i had a similar thing on my old 478 P4 3GHZ.... the heatsink was clogged full of dust so the temps soared.. have you checked for that?

is your opty a socket 939?? my x2 was running very cool the first year i owned it and overclocked it. now it idles hotter than normal and runs extra hot when on full load. ive heard other people with socket 939 cpus tell similiar stories. i dont want to start rumors but perhaps this is why amd switched to am2 so quick?

no probs with that here so far i own 2 opty.s a 180 an a 165

180 top out at 2.9gh [temps idel 33c an 33c] on stock cooler running 2,7gh

an the 165 has hit 3331mh so far lmao [temps 20c an 32c] idel runnin 3.1gh on water

same cooler used to oc both cpu.s

i duno y the 165 temp things like fugged [but my bros 939 4200+ is the same]

but my 180 temps ar bang on [an i know my 165 is conecting rite cus i laped the core]

both opty.s hve no cap on them

holy shit! i went naked! took the cap off, and now my temps are sooo low! not 80C or whatever they were anymore! i have another computer, but i was bored and fixed my opty 165 STEPPING CCBBE! 24 idle, ~45 load. will have to OC this!!!!
