... Or should I say my new problems with my memory.

Well for you all that saw my little comment on my new ram in this thread and are giving suggestions. Post here, instead of stealing that thread. ;)

The ram is OCZ Platinum 2 x 1GB 2-3-2-5. First thing that happened when I set them to their rated timings, speed, etc... was get a nice pretty BSOD. Loosened the timings up, and got into widows and got some lovely errors. Tried BF2, well it was a waste of time. After a few hours of messing with settings, I got a seemly stable system, but it wasn't.

I now have the ram running smoothly at 333MHz 2-3-2-5 1T (rated at DDR400 2-3-2-5). They are in orange slots and have been tested in prime95 for about 3 and half hours. Haven't tested them individually yet, will do tomorrow. Just sick of playing with them for one day. I have a feeling that one of the sticks in defective. For my life I cannot get them running at 400MHz with the rated timings. Been at it for hours, trying different things.

Well if you want to throw suggestions, you're more than welcome. I'll get a few more things checked when I get my patience for it back. Already ran over 7 hours of stability test after stability test. If it wasn't for my quick urge to try BF2 at my settings now and playing a game of it, I think I would have cried. Well, I'm out for then night, hope others that got new hardware have had more success than me.

Try inputting these timings:

. Genie Bios first entry at top> DRAM CONFIGURATION

a1. 200 Dram Frequency 1:1

a2. Enable CPC

a3. 2.5

a4. 04

a5. 07

a6. 04

a7. 07

a8. 14

a9. 05

a10. 03

a11. 02

a12. 05

a13. 3120

a14. 05

a15. Bank Interleave= DISABLED You want mediocre memory to run don't you? Then disable it and see how much better the thing will clock and do business right now.

a16. DQS Skew Control = INCREASE

a17. DQS Skew Value = 0 (zero)

a18. Dram Drive Strength= Level 6

a19. Dram Data Drive Strength= Level 4

a20. MAX ASYNCH LATENCY = 7X

a21. READ PREAMBLE= 5X

a22. IDLE CYLCE= 256 cycles

a23. DYNAMIC Counter= Disabled

a24. R/W Que Bypass = 16x

a25. ByPass Max 7X

a26. 32 Byte Granularity = Disable 8 Bursts.

This pretty much just goes straight down in the DRAM settings.

Tried some of those, but will give the rest a shot, thanks dude. But I shouldn't have to do that, it should run at stock with those on auto, and for no reason need 2.5-4-4-7 timings. I'm sure it's a defective stick, guess I will find out tomorrow when I test it.

You'd be suprised how picky DFI can be sometime. I've heard a lot of people have problems with certain OCZ sticks. And obviously those timings aren't the Bible or anything, just a guideline. Check the OC Database and Stock-Speed Database on DFI-Street to see if they used your sticks.

I ran it at 2.5-3-3-8 2T 2.7v DDR400 and it was still a no go. It's only been until I've run it at DDR333 that it seems stable. I brought the timings back to 2-3-2-5 1T @ DDR333 and it passed a 3 and half hours of prime95. Until I try each stick individually, I'm not going to jump to conclusions.

Tested both sticks individually at their rated timings/frequency, one past, one failed.

Togeather at these settings;

  • CPC = 2T (1T isn't stable)
  • Cas = 2
  • tRCD = 3
  • tRP = 2
  • tRAS = 8
  • tRC = 10
  • tRFC = 18
  • tRRD = 2
  • tWR = 2
  • tWTR = 2
  • tRTW/tRWT = 3
  • Async Latency = 8ns
  • Read Preamble = 6ns
  • Rest are "Auto"

I passed memtest for 3 hours, but in Windows prime95 fails and BF2 has a lot of hickups. Windows just desn't feel right either, like when I close a window, it closes oddly. So it's seems one is defective...

Well last night Urlyin and I were talking and he said to go as high on the voltage as the warantee willl let me. I did, it was stable im Prime95, and everything else was working fine.

Booted this morning, everything is failing, prime95 doesn't even last a second, getting Windows error messages. I haven't change a single setting since last night when it was working. It has to be a bad stick. Been waiting for OCZ to reply, but their sure taking their sweet time.

Ehh?.... now it's passing prime95, like it has to warm up or something. Going to let it run all day and see how it goes.

-Dan

Edit: Just ran prime95 for 11 hours and 23 mins, and it passed. Yet when I first booted it fail. Got an email from OCZ that had an rma form. Going to see how it is tomorrow when I boot, before I send OCZ the rma form back.

Booted this morning, never changed a thing, and it BSOD'd. Booted again, got into Windows (still never change any settings), decided on some Prime95, failed. After 11 hours of it yesterday, next day it wont even go a second.

Guess I have to rma it now...

Just got my memory back from RMA... very fast and I thank OCZ for the good service. Poped it in, seems all good so far, but until I run some nice long Prime95 and do a few hours of BF2, I wont know for sure.

But it's seem WAY better than before... it didn't bsod on boot up and fail prime95 in the first 2 seconds. :)

Well it failed prime95, and my system is still crashing. Reinstalled windows, loosened the timings, ram 2T CPC, upped the voltage, and it bsod'd on BF2, I keep getting registry errors and so on... I guess it's just not compatible with my system. :ohwell:

Yeah so it's the board, I'm sure of it. Flashed a new bios, and as soon as I change a setting, it wont post. So far though, the ram is going through prime95 ("so far", being the key term), but my vcore is kind of low... 1.28v. But if I try to bumb it, it wont post. :wtf:

Maybe this can be an excuse to get a new board and video card though.

I think I found a way around the no boot problem. Checked out DFI-Street and a lot of people had the same issue. I need to boot with no sata drive pluged in, then change settings, reboot into bios, power down, then power back up with sata drive in.

I haven't tried yet, still priming, will let it run for a couple more hours, then will try the bios trick. Real pain, but it should do for now, until I get a new board or find a better fix.
