System Specs

Crucial Ballistix Tracer pc2-8500 DDR2 1066

When you RMA these be aware.

There are to types of this exact memory so you people know. BL2KIT12864AL1065.16FD3 16modules and leds on both sides. BL2KIT12864AL1065.8FE5 8 modules and leds on one side. Crucial calls these the same. When you buy this, you could get either type of stick. These are very much different Again Crucial calls these the same.

Cons:
Warning. If you RMA this memory. You will not get the same exact memory back. If your part number is BL2KIT12864AL1065.16FD3 you will get from RMA, part number
BL2KIT12864AL1065.8FE5. The difference is 16FD3 has 16 modules and leds on both sides on the stick(The Famed ones). 8FE5 has 8 modules and leds only on one side of the stick (the new style ones). The heat spreaders on 16FD3 are better made. 8FE5 are cheap and use heatsink tape to hold them on. Crucial says these sticks are exactly the same. In no way are these the same. These new sticks are single sided and do not have the D9 chips.

Other Thoughts:
I would buy from a manufacturer that holds up to thier warranty and not trick you when it comes to the old RMA routine when they will eventually die. They will send you something totally different and call it the same. These new sticks are not the same as the famed Ballistix Tracer 1066 memory people praise.

This a FYI. I found out the hard way. I now run 2 gigs of good memory and 2 gigs of junk. If you plan to buy this memory, I would look elsewhere for some other decent memory. No name memory is better than this. You will not find much information on the net about this. This is your heads up.

Thanks for the tip. I don't think its a big deal, as long as you dont waste your money on ddr3, memory isnt really all that expensive.

i sent in a dead 4 gig 4x1gig crucial lanfest last week for rma. schedualed to return to me on thursday this week. we will see what i get.

when i chatted with the tech i told them i was sending in a 4gig kit of thier limited edition ram and didnt want regular ballistix tracer's in return, since i've been seeing alot of negetive reviews on them. i asked if i could be sent the 2x2gig kit red tracers, the tech said he would see what he can do. so i believe i'm getting a 4 gig set of red tracers delivered.

if i open the box and see single sided tracers i'm rmaing them right back, even before i open them up.

I bet they are getting rid of what's left of the DDR2 and getting ready for the DDR 3.

Just about every manufacturer is.

Bring on the red tracer DDR3 2000Mhz!!!!

That's what I have to say.

I bet they do hit the advertised clocks, so in some words they are right. It's just as good.

That's why I stocked a second set of 16FD3 tracers. If my current set dies I'll have a backup good set. Definitely not ready to move to DDR3 any time soon.

When I recieved this new set (2 gigs), My second 2 gigs shit the bed(Old style). I have had a lot of problems running these two kinds of memory together. Alot of BSOD's now. Im RMAing these last 2 and selling all 4. Going back to corsair. 4 gigs in two months ive sent back. I want something that will last alittle longer than nine months. I noticed when these get hot, the heatsinks actually lift of the modules and never again sit right on the sticks. I see why they changed them. Running 8 modules per stick instead of 16 makes them hotter. 8 have to do the job of 16. All the heat is on one side of the stick (NOT GOOD) and makes them bow out of shape. This is part why dual sided memory is better. Heat is equally disapated on the stick..These are now in the catogary of JUNK.

Yes most manufactures are getting rid of their DDR2's but they're not going all cheap and deceptive like crucial is.

the new patriot viper extreme series 9600's use micron D9's and they are a wonderful kit, and they're cheap as heck too!

If you can't get the old tracers, go patriot.

I actually have 4 gigs of regular ddr thats patriot. Never had any problems with them. Im pretty much done with crucial. I build computers for a livin and they lost a good customer. I dont bother Rmaing customers memory back to crucial. Im just putting different memory back in them. Crucial is making me look bad. Have to keep dealing with the same customers that thier memory keeps going bad. Crucial doesnt look at it that way. How do you tell a customer 3 times in two months crucials memory when bad. They just go to another computer shop. Makes you look bad.
Im still pissed about it.
