Nothing to view... :( I don't even know what stock voltage is. I'm wondering in pic #1 which voltage to actually raise?

I don't have water blocks installed on mine so I can't boot it up.....there is no monitor in bios by where you see your temps?

Whats the name of that one program that shows all of your votages made by cpuz I belive....

No, crystal cpuid doesn't list voltages. But the AMD program does. I tried upping voltage but I'm getting nowhere, I'll keep working at it...

Here are my screens from Cpu-z I got it set to 1.45 in bios, though cpu=z reads 1.47. My memory is about up there with yours and this is orthos stable 24/7

Havent tried taking it more as my board isnt the uberest at ocing, but Im sure I could. What say the rest of yous?

I have it running a 3ghz, 854 mem and all is stable. I'll put the OC's on once again when I test tri crossfire again this weekend. Thanks eveyone for the help!:toast: This board is quite a bit more difficult to use than my old A8N32 Sli board, but thanks to you all, I now have the knowledge.:toast:

First of all, apologies for posting in this thread - but I figured that since there's already 1 thread about the *same exact* issues, that I'd just post in here instead of creating pretty much an identical thread.

Background: I have *tonz* of overclocking experience with everything AMD back to the TBird 1700+ that was moddable to over 2GHz. Anyway, my previous system was an Opteron 165 CCBBE 0615 DPMW running at 3.2GHz with 1.375V in an A8R32-MVP Deluxe (yep - big fan of AMD's chipsets!!!) and some Corsair XMS3202C2 v1.3 running at 583MHz for well over a year.

I also understand AMD's equation for all the bus overclocking:
(CPU Multi) * (HTT or FSB) = (CPU Freq)
(CPU Multi) / (Memory Divider) = (Divisor Ratio)
(CPU Freq) / (Divisor Ratio) = RAM MHZ (* 2 = DDR)
now, this line has changed with the new architecture from:
HT Multiplier * HTT = HT MHz
to
(NB Multiplier) * (FSB) = NB MHz
and I fully understand that the NB *always* has to be higher or = (but *never* less than) the HT (HT < or = NB MHz)

So, with all that previous experience in mind, I'm having issues.

Currently, here are my spex:

12.5X
225 FSB
1.3V VCORE
NB Multi 10X at 1.5V
HT at 2GHz at 1.5V
RAM at DDR2 800 5-5-5-15 2T and 2.2V

(12.5) * (225) = 2812.5
(12.5) / (2.0 ( running in DDR800 Ganged) ) = 6.25
(2812) / (6.25) = 449.92MHz (* 2 = 899.84MHz)
NB Multi 10X (10 * 225 = 2250)

I'm completely stable there - in fact, I've done so many tests that I pretty much understand what's going on with the new architecture now.

By taking everything out of the equation, and testing one thing at a time, I've found my M3A32-MVP Deluxe boards MAX FSB (with this Phenom 9850BE) is 283, the MAX NB is 2630 (but 2400 with HT at 2GHz is completely stable), and my MAX RAM MHz is 1175MHz at 5-5-5-18-28-2T 2.2V

So, here's my problem.
No matter what voltages I try for the CPU, NB, Core/PCI-E, CPU VDDA and DDR V, setting the RAM to 400MHz, and setting the NB and HT to their lowest settings, I can't get to 3GHz.

I already am pretty sure that my CPU stepping is decent, with several that I've seen in spreadsheet databases reaching into the 3.1 - 3.3GHz range (3.3 with H2O) - so I'm fairly sure it's not the CPU itself - I believe that I'm still missing something.

I've tested *every* possible RAM combination with 2 of the 4 1GB sticks as well as all 4 - Ganged vs. Unganged, Bank Interleaving, Channel Interleaving (and *all* it's options), Memclk Tristate, Hole Remap, Read Delay, DCQ, Voltage, as well as setting loose latencies in DDR2 800 with higher voltage on *every* possible voltage option (up to 1.5 on the CPU - but it was too hot!) - and *STILL* can't hit 3GHz.

In my testing, I've found that my RAM runs best at DDR2 800 Ganged mode, 5-5-5-18-2T with 2.2V, as per Everest Memory Benchmarks.
Read=8414 Write=6303 Copy=8828 and ns=54.0 with those settings...actually, right on par with my previously *perfectly* overclocked (582.68MHz) XMS3202 v1.3 RAM in my previous system.
So, DDR2 800 is where these stick will probably stay in this system - it's just the CPU that I'm not feeling the love on...

Any advice?? I'm pretty seriously stuck!

SPECIFICALLY: Is there anyone that reads this thread that has a 9850BE on the M3A32-MVP Deluxe that can help me by posting up their BIOS settings? - And, what BIOS is everyone out there using now? 1002 seems to work the best with my stuff - 0802 didn't like DDR1066 (but I haven't tried that one since resolving to use DDR800) - 0601 doesn't like anything, and I don't like it!!

Please give some advice - it's greatly appreciated!

Hey, what settings have you tried to reach 3Ghz cpu wise? Have you tried leaving everything else to stock settings and booting at 15*200 to get 3Ghz just to see if it'll do it? So far I've been able to get 3Ghz and pass at least 1 hour of 100% stability testing with the following combos...

250*12 (my daily setting not a single hiccup no matter how long it's stressed)
240*12.5 (and had 2.4Ghz NB 480Mhz ram passed 1 hour before I quit)
200*15 (also passed no problems 2.4Ghz NB)

I'm sure there are more but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I've booted just fine up to 3.125Ghz so far (12.5*250) but can't get windows to start at 3.2Ghz or higher though it'll past POST just fine (up to 3.2Ghz on stock 1.30 v).

What are you using to determine stability...games, Everest (my favorite), ORTHOS, Prime...something else? Also what kinda temps do you get under load cuz you use pretty high voltage for some of your things (HT/NB I did both at 1.30v but never went more than 1 hour during testing so far).

I'm trying new settings quite a lot lately due to the amount of questions I get on this combo (and the processor in general). I'm also using the 1002 bios until they put out a new one that'll let you boot at speeds higher than 3Ghz. A fair number of people I know have been having issues trying to boot at speeds upwards of 3Ghz but we can run them just fine once in Windows...

So, as a Veteran Overclocker, the first thing I do when I get a new system is:

1) Drop the CPU Multi to it's lowest (in this case 8X)
2) Drop the RAM to it's lowest (in this case, 400MHz)
3) Drop the HT to it's lowest (in this case, 4X NB and 200MHz HT)

Then, leaving everything on default settings (but actually put in BIOS as a setting - i.e. VCORE 1.3 instead of AUTO, RAM latencies at their SPD for the MHz, etc.) I'll begin raising the FSB by 10MHz at a time until it won't POST, drop it back down 5 and raise it in 1MHz increments till I find the MAX FSB ... so mine (with the Phenom 9850) is 284.

Then, I'll drop that back down and start with the HT (and NB in this case) - raising it using the NB multiplier until it won't POST, keeping the HT as high as possible ... leaving me at 2600 MHz NB and only completely stable to Windows at 2400MHz NB and 2000MHz HT)

Then I'll begin with the RAM by loosening all the main latencies 3-4 notches (where possible) and raising the MHz *AND* HTT (or FSB) until it won't boot all the way into Windows, then tightening the latencies, rebooting between each and every change all the way into Windows, running Everest Ultimate Memory Benchmark and SuperPi each time to test stability (quick and dirty - the OCCT and Orthos Stressprime comes later!) - in this case, 1175MHz was my RAM's MAX MHz at 5-5-5-18-2T 2.2V

So, with all my MAX limits outlined, I'll being putting it all together, tweaking the RAM, *all* the voltages, etc., using the following formula: (which is *still* AMD's little secret equation ;) )

(CPU Multi) * (FSB) = (CPU Freq)
(CPU Multi) / (Memory Divider) = (Divisor Ratio)
(CPU Freq) / (Divisor Ratio) = RAM MHz (* 2 = DDR)
(NB Multiplier) * (FSB) = NB MHz and keeping the HT < or = NB at all times

So, this is where I've gotten stuck.
Below is a screenshot from about 20 minutes after I got done installing everything in my case. That was stable enough to pass 6 hours of Orthos Stressprime at priority10 and validated the CPUz for it too.
CPUz Validation http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=346741
It clearly shows an overclock that's decent, but just not the best - I know this system is certainly capable of more than that!

**EDIT: CPUz shows my RAM inaccurately as DDR2 800 RAM, when, in fact, it's Corsair Dominator 8500C5D (handpicked myself)

Anyway, here's the catch: I haven't got it to boot all the way into Windows with that high of an overclock (even using the *same exact* settings!) since that screenshot. The temps are even a little better since the AS5 has started working after a couple days...although I do think they're still too high at 45*C idle and ~59*C under full load.

Sooo.....wtF?

(thanks for the input!)

Hey Psychlone, I see no problems with your methods as they're the pro tried and true methods anyway. BUT you still haven't told me whether or not you can put everything at stock and boot at one or ANY of those 3 combinations to get 3Ghz into Windows at all.

I just switched over to testing 240*12.5 for 3Ghz STILL on stock 1.30v and have had no problems so far (after 1 hour stress testing and using it all day long). I'll be doing some more stress testing on it overnight to see how things go (no worries here). I'm really curious to see if you can start your setup at 3Ghz at ANY setting independant of the other things being overclocked.

I'm running right now...

3Ghz cpu (240*12.5)
2.4Ghz NB (x10)
2.16Ghz HT Link (x9)
960Mhz RAM (1:2 with 5-5-5-15 2T)

Cpu Vcore 1.30v (stock)
NB Vcore 1.40v
HT Link Vcore (stock)
RAM Vcore 2.1v (stock)
Cpu Tweak enabled
Cache mapping cycle enabled (changed from auto)

Everest numbers
---------------------
Write 8632
Read 6011
Copy 8979
Latency 52.4ns

What are you L3 Cache numbers since your NB is running faster than mine I'm curious to see the difference.

L3 Cache numbers
------------------
Write 9,220
Read 10,870
Copy 11,458
Latency 6.6ns

Ran SuperPi 1M real quick in windows (not safe mode) and got 25.693s. My previous best time in safe mode time was 25.786s with 3Ghz cpu (250*12) 2Ghz NB (x8), 2Ghz HT (x8), and 1000Mhz RAM (1:2 with 5-5-5-15 2T). 3dmark06 score went up to 13,057 (from 13,007) using lower overclocks on the gpu this time.

Please try to see if you can boot at either 250*12, 240*12.5, or 200*15 to get 3Ghz with everything else on stock settings at stock voltage (1.30v) and let me know.

Thanks,
K

K, real quick cause I'm right in the middle of trying to find the common denominator...

I *CANNOT* boot into Windows at 3GHz with *any* setting...I've tried dropping *everything* to it's lowest, leaving all the voltages at default (but set), and simply upping the multi - and no go...best for my processor is 2.9GHZ - but it's rock solid there. (in fact, that's where I'm at as we speak, but it will not go higher - I've tried upping the VCORE all the way to 1.45V with the high multiplier and everything else turned low and it will not boot all the way into Windows) - but it will boot to Windows at 2.9 with 1.3V and is 6 hours OCCT and Orthos stable (I know that's not *truly* stable, but I'll do a 24 hour run later after I zero it all in)

I'm missing something...if my processor only requires 1.3V to reach 2.9GHz, why is it that no matter how much more voltage I throw at it, that it can't just the next 100 F'ing MHz???? :wtf: - *SERIOUSLY*!!

What are you using to determine the L3 Cache numbers? L3 Cache is new to me, and I've not seen a bench for it...but I'll run it for you for comparison...

Also, my best SuperPI so far is only 27.356s when I was still benching in between boots when I was finding the MAX CPU freq. - this isn't with any of the memory dialed in yet, or with the HT and NB cranked up, so I'm figuring that there's quite some room for improvement in that score...25 seconds is pretty damn good Brother! I'd like to see that here on my rig! ;)

Anyway, any thoughts as to why my known decent stepping can't hit 3GHZ??

Here's a funny side-note: When I installed everything in my new CM Cosmos S case, with my new OCZ GameXstream 1010, I didn't see that there were 2 12V rails for the CPU - I only had 1 plugged in and the other rail was taped off and slipped on the backside of the case...that's the screenshot that I took that I posted above!!
Since then, I've plugged in the other 12V rail (obviously making BOTH 12V CPU rails connected) - but can't get any further - leading me to believe that having both 12V rails connected was decreasing the amperage for both, so I unplugged the right one (like when I first put it together) and tried in vain to post at the same settings as the screenshot...could be that I need to multimeter my PSU and see if there's a fluctuation that I'm not aware of between both the 12V CPU rails... hmmm....

Anyway, thanks for the input - the further I get into this BIOS, the more I understand about the new architecture. I'm beginning to lean towards leaving my CPU at 1.3V and 2.9GHz, and cranking up my RAM and NB/HT - right now, I'm testing my RAM at 1040MHz (11 X 260 @ 1.3V) with stock SPD latencies, 2.2V UNganged, with the NB at 1.8GHz and HT at 200MHz... I think that once I dial in and tighten up the latencies with the highest MHz I can pull outta these Dominators, I'll be about where I wanted to be - with the exception of my D@MN non-3GHz-attaining-Phenom!!:banghead:

I wouldn't give up all hope yet as it simply may be a bios issue that you're dealing with the same as the rest of us. Like I said I still can't get 3.2Ghz to boot into windows even though it'll past post on 1.30v. I've tried all the way up to 1.5v but no go...everytime I do try it and if I get an error (I don't) with ANYTHING the post screen will read the incorrect cpu speed when I try to boot again. This happens if it's a video card failure, if it's a cpu failure, ANY failure it'll read the incorrect cpu speed even though nothing has changed. It's just a bios issue that's not been addressed yet so it's no big deal, they'll fix it eventually. I'm not the only person to have this issue and I wouldn't doubt it if you're having the samething.

The speed it reads is usually 3.12Ghz if it was set below 3.2Ghz and if above that 3.17Ghz. This has happened at STOCK speed as well (it'll say 2.77Ghz then) so it's not an overclocking issue just a bios thing.

I would definately call 2.9Ghz good and get the ram and more importantly the Northbridge up as high as you can go (HT Link will only allow up to 2.25Ghz no matter what you do as it's a hard board limit) as that will have the biggest impact on your Memory&Cache numbers. As you can see I dropped my ram speed by 20Mhz and I crushed my 1000Mhz numbers and even when I had things at 1070Mhz I still crushed them. Northbridge speed is definately key with the Phenom lineup. I'm not sure what speed you can reach for the Northbridge as that's the same as cpu and bios things. I can only get it to boot at 2.4Ghz (I can't use any other setting but 2.0 or 2.4) but absolutely NO higher no matter how much voltage I throw at it. I've seen speeds much higher than 2.4Ghz but not on this board yet just like the highest speeds. Our boards seem to be easier to get stable, but some of the other bios seem to be able to boot higher right now. Once we get an update I think we're good to go.

Oh yea about the L3 Cache benchmarks, they're in the Everest "Memory and Cache" benchmark it's the 4th set of numbers on the benchmark (Memory, L1, L2, and L3) on the same page you got your numbers from for memory when you did your last benchmarks. :)

 De-ta-DEE!!!! I was using the single benchmarks 'cause I also would run Zlib and Mandrel as well...

So, here ya go: (This was running 10.5X 272 = 2856MHz and 1.3V, RAM @ 2.1V, 544MHz, 5-5-5-15 2T, NB 1.3V at 2176MHz and HT at 1088MHz. - Still *ALOT* of headroom to play with timings and NB/HT as well.

READ__WRITE__COPY__NS
8534___5441___9066__52.0

L3 Cache
READ__WRITE__COPY__NS
8964___9921___10860_7.4

Again, lots of headroom to improve there because of the decreased CPU speed (I was just trying to ensure no BSODs) and HT specifically, then there's the RAM's latencies to deal with. Just trying to find the best possible combination for the CPU (FSB and multi)/NB/HT (and the multiple settings related to them) before I delve into the RAM's latencies and tightening/loosening as necessary...

Thanks for the input, keep it coming! I'm learning more now than with the old K8!

New problem... I can't get my Wifi to show up in the device manager. I put the driver CD in, no driver shows up. I try to install the driver from a download and it says the adapter is not found. So, is there a part in the bios that I'm missing to enable the Wifi?

There is indeed something in the bios that needs to be enabled from what I can remember, but I can't think of what it is right now. I'll see if I can find it but that's about all I can do as I took the wireless card off my board on the first day cuz I knew I would never use it.

Problem fixed. I just reset the bios, and the wifi magically appeared under onboard devices again. Thanks DaMulta.:)

Lol, what was really noobish of me was not even thinking of restoring the bios settings to default! I just have no idea where the wifi in the bios went?!
