Guide to Radeon X800/X850 bios modding

Hey guys I just picked up a BBA X850pro agp today and was wondering if anyone can tell me if I can flash my bios to open up the extra pipes. If not, should I flash the bios to get better overclocks or just use ATI Tool? Here are my specs from ATI Tool. Thanks

Find your max core and memory using ATITool and if you can reach 540/590MHz you can flash it with X850XT PE or (pure XT) BIOS and to obtain 12 pipe XT (PE) card.

Powercolor X800GTO AGP NonViVo

Hi,
how can i detect which chipset i have r420 or r480? Its not stated clearly on the chip.

The card is not modable to 16pipes - Fuses: First row D / Second row F
It runs stable at 540 Core and 510 mem (default 475/450).

Hi, guys! These forums rock! Great Job from all you guys helping everyone out!

I see using ATITool .25 beta that my card is only using 12 pipelines.

Being a modding n00b I would like to see if I can unlock the last 4 with a BIOS mod.

I saw another 850 with like fuses a bit back that needed a physical connection.
So does this card need more than a BIOS tweak to unlock the last 4 pipelines?

Hi Dolf,

When i was cranking up to the memory up to 590Mhz ATi Tool giving me errors on artificats.

Only if i go down to 550.80 there are no artifiacts. :banghead:

hi all
i have a x850pro and i'd like to unlock it....
sadly there's an "e" in my fuse line ...but i don't know if this depends on the bios i already flashed which is not original or what....plz someone lend me an hand.... i'll include the working bios i'm using now.... if a hardware mod is required i'd like to know if it's an hard thing or not... and if i can eventually return to my previous settings...tx all

- Your card can go to 16 pipelines
- it probaby performs very well already but with 16 pipes you'll have a nice increase in recent games
- you need your bios to get modded, what is your graphics card?

Ok I modded the bios to get 16 pipes
Created a bootable floppy with ATIFlash.exe v3.15, modded bios and original bios.
Booted via floppy
then tried to flash using ATIflash.exe mod.bin -f

It just drops me to the help list, what am I doing wrong :confused:

Try with the following command line when you are in DOS mod:

atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 (it is zero) mod.bin

Great 16 pipes and a big smile, Used dolfs settings but thank you as well megatron I'd rebooted by the time you'd posted.

Right now to ati tools and a bit of overclocking, at the moment I have temperatures of 36 unloaded with Core at 537.30 and Mem at 575.10

i solved my prob with pipes myself

... cuz on my card i simply can't unlock them.... btw....
i'm now running a zalman on my ati radeon x850pro by ati (default clocks 500/500) and i played doom for a while at 550/570... no probs till now and no artifacts with atitool ...shall i keep on running theese clocks? should i change? the chipset mod is r481 (crossfire's one ...) ...

Hi agilulfo, you could change the clock speeds to 540/590 which i believe are x850XT Pe speeds, or try 530/580 and if things run smooth up it to the XTPE speeds.

I'm about to test those speeds out with a bit of COD2 and BF2 so see ya in a bit.

Hi steve, unfortunately not. For a card to be moddable it has to have:

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0XFFFFFF9F

yours has a 7 where and F should be and the substrate_fuse ends in 'E' all that means its hardware locked not software locked; sorry dude. :ohwell:

Mine was an AGP card, I don't think PCI-E cards can be modded? may have misread that one. i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, i'll edit this post if its wrong guys.
