I am preparing a Crysis Warhead performance evaluation. Just wanted to share with HD4870 with you.

Pardon me for all the text, which may be hard to read, instead of the normal graphs. But the graphs take time, they will be done once are results are in.

Settings :

Q9450 @ 2.66 Ghz Stock
HD4870 @ Stock Speeds
4GB RAM @ 800Mhz 5-5-5-15

Everything at stock, So with anything overclocked expect better performance

HD4870

3X just means the loop was run 3 times and then the results averaged. Otherwise its pretty self-explanatory with 0AA, 2AA and 4AA .

i'd like to see the 4850 crossfire performance as that's what i have right now. also, how do you run the benchmark? are you using the same benchmark program for crysis? i got pretty much the same performance in warhead as i did in crysis on my crossfire setup at pretty much the same settings. looking forward to your benchmarks.

I see in some 4870 reviews that the 3870X2 and 4870 are about neck and neck in some if not alot of benchmarks. With what you have posted do you think I'll see about the same performance with my 3870X2?

Also, thanks for this information.

I don't mind looking at this stuff, but why all the threads popping up with people's personal 'reviews' and 'performance tests?'

You can get a benchmark tool for it...

Though admittedly, that only became available really recently so, my only real gripe is what's with the 1280X1024;

If higher end GPUs have worse performance at lower resolutions, how is this going to help compare Crysis vs Crysis : Warhead?

I get a very smooth framerate with the following:

4870 OC'ed to: 860/1100
E8400 @ 4GHz
4GB RAM @ 500MHz 5-5-5-15
1680 x 1050 resolution

Settings:

Enthusiast (highest)
No AA/AF
1680 x 1050
DX9 mode

With these specs/settings I can a fluid framerate of around 25-40 FPS.

This game scales well with Crossfire, 35% with a HD4850 added to HD4870 . Much better than Crysis .

what about 4850 in crossfire? i would like a recommendation in settings for my 4850 crossfire setup. i'm seeing the same performance as i saw in crysis, which is not good. maybe i also need to update to the 8.9 cat. can someone please recommend some tweaks in the settings. :).

I'm not sure about some benchmarks, they make me madd!!!! look at these. http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=227&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=7
Your telling me that a 4870 will get 49fps on average on high settings???? I mean I know they have a better cpu and ram than mine, but is there that much of a difference ?
Are those right cause I have a 4870 , amd 6400 and 2 gig ddr 800 , xp sp2 and latest ati drivers, all stock speeds and I cant reach anywhere near those speeds, heck even the 4850 kicks my butt! Am I doing something wrong here? Even at all high 1024x768 I cant get above 30 fps outside. Hrmmmm,

anyone have any suggestions?

I was having similar problems with FPS until I overclocked my CPU to 3.3ghz.

Are you talking about Crysis or Crysis:Warhead, DEAFETEST?

If about Cyrsis, then your FPS might be right. Warhead on the other hand, which the op is benching, has been worked on by the development team to improve its performance, that's why the framerates look so great.

I get 35-40 FPS at 1680x1050, but only on mainstream on Warhead, my rig though is not super powerful.

If your talking about warhead and struggling with FPS, try some of the optimization threads floating around, there are some here at TPU.

I was talking about both really. I find warehead to be only slightly better , but certainly now outdoors. Indoors I'm rockin the FPS (50-70) on gamer settings 1680x1050. However the outdoor scenes, especially when theres alot of action just bog right down to low 20's even teens. I know crysis is a brute when it comes to graphics. I was mainly disturbed by the benchmarks on the link I mentioned in my post up top. Those fps didnt seem right to me.
Anyone agree with that ? I'll try some of the tweaks , thanks for you help!!
