(Sorry : I don't speak english very well)

I change on my Notebook (ACER Aspire 9920G) my 8600mGT MXM II graphic card to an upgrade by a 9600mGT MXM II.

But, I have a problem. My screen stay black. My old card is definitely dead in the meantime.

I think the problem is the supply voltages. (8600mGT = 1.15V / 9600mGT = 0.89V)
The 9600mGT has an ACER BIOS.

I don't know if necessary change the BIOS of the laptop for power supply (This should be automatic ?) ... or else!

If someone can help me. Thank ^^

By "your screen stays black" do you mean that it doesn't show not even the bios post? ie the white font on black screen while the laptop is loading?

Or does it show those... then the screen remains black?

If it's the latter it could just be a minor driver incompatibility problem...

It could be more serious though, if the card has been overvolted it could have been damaged - any smell of burning from around the vents? Does the HDD still spin up, any bios beeps?

Could be a BIOS snafu. Some OEMs integrate the VGA BIOS into the main motherboard BIOS.

Basically he bought a MXM card for his laptop, now If I were you I would make sure that that SPECIFIC card is in fact compatible with your laptop model, I had a this situation before, bought a MXM card for my laptop it was supposed to work and didn't because my psu couldn't handle it, its either your laptop won't support it because the bios needs to be modified for your model, or your laptop can't supply enough power

also make sure its not overheating and is seated properly.

Thank you for your reply ^^

I have more informations :

My Integrated screen remain black, but, on the VGA external connector, I see perfectly (the POST, Windows ...)

Now, I am sure that the voltage is not the problem. I am looking for the BIOS. (It's not integrated in my mainboard BIOS, because, I can see the VGA BIOS version of my 9600mGT in the mainboard BIOS Index ^^)

I repost if I have news.

It sounds like the port on the motherboard for the LCD is dead, or the LCD backlight died?

There's nothing wrong with your card if it works on an external monitor. You shouldn't need to flash its bios either.
The trouble is either the laptop's monitor itself, or it's power has been interrupted. Does it show any flashing when you power on the laptop or does it remain dead black the same as when it is switched off?

Open up the laptop again.

Check if there is anything loose - perhaps when installing the graphics you inadvertently did something to disconnect the source of power of the lcd... hopefully you didn't break any fine cabling... :/

Thank you, I'll look in that direction first.

However, before my first card is finally dead, the LCD had this reaction when I went from the 8600 to 9600 ...

But its costs me nothing to check.

The LCD works when I replace the 9600mGT by 8600mGT (just the display is blurred by the failure of 8600)

I have attached the bios file (.rom) of my current graphics card (9600mGT), if it can help ...

Hello! I know it has been some time from the last post but what happened to your problem anyway? Did you solve it and how? I have the similar problem with my ACER ASPIRE 9920G but the new graphic card that I bought is the same with the original (8600m GT)... Any clues? If you can please send me a dump of the original VBIOS of your 8600m GT to try.... Thank you very much!

edit:
this is the original video bios of acer aspire 9920g. I flashed my new 8600m GT with this bios and the internal screen is working again!

Hi,

I have a 9920g too... and I bought it from a guy telling me the video card had a problem... that was right : the display was weird, but when I received it, changing the CPU ( I upgraded to a T7700)... it worked perfectly with the 8600GT !!!

While this, I bought an ATI Radeon Mobility HD3650... a vendor told me it was compatible. But when I try to plug it... I have a black screen and the computer turns off immediatly after 8/10 seconds...

So, my question is :
how to "flash" the vBios to install the HD3650 and, if I'm not satisfied, how to flash again the vBios to reinstall the 8600GT ???

could you explain me ?

(sorry if my English is so poor : I'm a Frenchy...:ohwell:)

I am interested but not sure how to answer the question. I wouldn't think those two would be compatible with the same board.
