the stats can be misleading though, what if one manufacture sells more products than the next guy, does it mean it will have more products returned? Its like PNY and EVGA for the graphic card, PNY sells less and get less return and EVGA gets a lot more return due to high volume of sells.

No surprise to me that Seagate is still captain of the hard drive failboat. I went 7/11 for failed 7200.10 and .11 drives in a six month period. Two of the failures were RMA drives.

Very cool. Makes you want to hack into Newegg, Frys and a few others to get the straight dope.

I know that it will be a long time before I buy another Samsung drive. I've got a 1.5T (don't remember model) that has errors almost as soon as it spins up.

Looks like maybe I should stock up on the WD's though.

Interesting read until I read "The statistics by brand are based on a minimum sample of 500 sales and those by model on a minimum sample of 100 sales". And then the "loose" definition of "return".

Any statistician would laugh. They need to set a "confidence interval" on the data set before taking %'s otherwise we are only seeing natural statistical randomness. Except of course, those nasty outliers. There is clearly a problem there! (Or is there? What was the sample set again?)

i understand your point however we can see at least which products can't be trusted no matter the name & brand;this kind of information is not easy to obtain as many seller lie to protect specific brands...so is up to reader to decide how to treat it

Absolutely. Those outliers stick out like a sore thumb and should caution anyone. But rank tables of +-0.01% is absolute tosh. Plus a better definition of return needs to be used. For example, that bad PSU. Let's say the problem was the size of the main power connector... 20pin rather than 24pin, or number of aux power connectors, or bad pallet delivery dropped in warehouse. The "returned" data needs to be cleaned so that it represents "faulty" and not just "customer return". Anyway, I dont want to belabour the point. Just that these statistics could be really interesting... but are spoiled due to poor analysis or data cleaning and "ranking" of otherwise equal data.

Hehe I may have been a contributer to the high return rate on the Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X's If it is Pixmania they are using as their large French e-tailer.

Heck I had 3 ordered at one point. 1st was an accident(Full Retail Bundle) 2nd one was the "standard" Vapor-X and the one I kept the OC Edition Vapor-X. Not at all convenient to be shipping/returning stuff from Norway to France...But they were pretty good with it anyway sent me shipping labels and everything.
