Yes, yes you are. You are very, very alone. More money should not be spent toward using such old, weak, inefficient hardware. It should be torn apart and recycled in to new silicon or cool jewelry like the necklaces with P2 chips embedded into them.

It is ok to love the old GPU's, but it is that 16 year old hentai girls are hot kinda love. Where we all secretly want to say "I do too. Its ok, they aren't real people." Then when you say it out loud, everyone just looks at you funny.

I think anything pre-DX9 should be ok... any cards that lack T&L can be classified as really old

I have a Voodoo5 5500 PCI in a 2000 era Dell. I'll never get rid of it, if all I do is fire it up a couple times a year to play Diablo II. Nothing beats Glide for that game!

From Wikipedia: "One of the design goals for the VSA-100 was scalability. The name of the chip is an abbreviation for "Voodoo Scalable Architecture." By using one or more VSA-100 chips on a board, the various market segments for graphics cards are satisfied with just a single graphics chip design. Theoretically, anywhere from 1 to 32 VSA-100 GPUs could be run in parallel on a single graphics card, and the fillrate of the card would increase proportionally. On cards with more than one VSA-100, the chips are linked using 3dfx's Scan-Line Interleave (SLI) technology. A major drawback to this method of performance scaling is that various parts of hardware are needlessly duplicated on the cards and board complexity increases with each additional processor."

Wasn't cost effective at the time (among other problems) to provide more than 2 VSA-100 chips on a consumer-level video card. But that's not a big problem in the "never have enough performance", "money is no object" 3D modeling and simulation market. The AAlchemy had each of it's eight VSA-100 chips outfitted with 64MB instead of 32MB, to help in scaling and overall performance.

On another note, I need to pull out my old boot magazines. I remember one of their extreme machines featuring a Matrox Millenium (2D), a Voodoo (GLide), and another card which I can't remember that supported a competing 3D API which I also don't remember right now... What I do remember is that it was solely for the 3 or 4 games that used it, lol.

3dfx vsa-100 strategy was similar to the ati's current one in my opinion: make a cheap small chip (vsa-100, rv770) then add more according to the targeted market.
Voodoo 4 = 4850
Voodoo 5 5500 = 4870
Voodoo 5 6000 = 4870 x2

too bad it was too late for them...

I think the 32mb dual vga card was made by Matrox.

I have a couple VooDoo IIs still. 12mb each. I'm actually going to be putting them back into my pc. I had them in an old Dell Dimension with a Celeron 400 (oc to 533 lol) and it ran UT 2k at 100+fps.

I have an AsRock 4CoreDual-VSTA. It has about 4 pci slots, one agp 8x slot, and one pci-e 16 (locked at 4x) slot. when i first got the board i had my pent d 915 at stock (stock cooler suck in summer time with no A/C in the house), 1Gb ddr400, radeon 9600XT, 2x voodooII, winxp/2k dual boot. I later upgraded to a geforce 8600gt in the pci-e, added an ati all in wonder 7500 in the agp, and still had the 3dfx wonders in there. oh, and 2gb ram and overclocked to 3.2ghz. (winter time lol)

But now i plan on adding my 3dfx cards back to the mix of things. i just got a 500gb hard drive so i can use the 160 for win2k (with maybe linux on it too) for 3dfx. I still have a lot of the duke nukem games, decent 1,2, and 3, orig half life, etc.

technically 3dfx sorta lives on... nvidia bought them out if i remember correctly. so maybe there's a little 3dfx influence still in nVida
