NVIDIA 191.07 driver dangerous?

Hi all!

I read on Finnish Wikipedia that the 191.07 driver version is capable of destroying a grafics card thru not rising the fan speed over 30-40% when the GPU temp increases? So basically locking the fan speed...

I have a Palit GFX275 with that driver version and my PC shuts down everytime i game and do not set the fan speed manually to like 70% with EVGA Presicion or Riva Tuner :mad:

Anyone have more info on that?

I'm running that driver and it's kept my card around 65 or so C at load with 60% fanspeed according to the GPU-Z monitor.

use msi afterburner and setup your own fan speed profile, its what i do with mine and it keeps my card nice and cool, tbh i dont think i have ever seen my driver/bios up my fan speed to more than 37% unless i do this.

i will try it after to see what happens tho and post back if its like that.

im also using the 191.07 but i also use evga precision when i start gaming i increase the fan speed manually

using said driver on my 280 with no issues. Maybe you should contact the retailer/manufacturer and dig a bit deeper on that end.

I also do this with MSI Afterburner and stand by it as a very effective solution, piece of mind is paramount with your expensive PC gear!

I use EVGA Precision and have the fan on my 9800GX2 set to auto and it ramps upto 100% during folding.

I tried 190.62 and i still have the fan speed fixed to 40% even if the GPU gets as hot as 82 Celsius.. i begin to wonder if the Palit GTX275 Bios has something to do with it.. man i dont want my card to spin up only when it reaches like 100 Celsius.. that would be stupidity..

I think you're fine man. Some manufacturers tweak their cards for quiet operation over low temperatures.

I am playing it safe, sticking with 186.18. None of the early 190 and up series has worked well for me, the most recent releases weren't as bad as the earlier ones, but they still suck.
And I have never had to wait this long for a good-working Nvidia driver, what is up with this?
Don't know about any destroyed hardware though

I've been using 195.55 driver for a few days now but I set a custom profile in riva tuner so my fans are always at 59%. I have an Accelero twin turbo strapped to my 9800gt though so it stays quite and I've never seen a temp over 54*C in Furmark.

I'll test the 195.55 driver and see if the fan temp goes up under load without the riva tuner controlling the fans.

Yea The 195.62 driver fixed it from overheating so fast, but the fan is still stuck at 40%. To fix that I used MSI Afterburner. Now after stress testing my card card for an hour there is no over heating.

WTF with the newest driver 195.62 suddenly real temp shows that my card is 0 Celsius cold and MSI Afterburner suddenly spins my GPU fans up to 100% although Riva Tuner shows it to be only 35 Celsuis, not the way i programmed the fan to behave!
Although i noticed that my card run very much cooler with the newest driver

so i decided to install Win7 x64 instead of my Win7 x32 to see if that corrects the bugs...

195.62 is not compatible with RivaTuner. Its say that once you 1st install the 195.62 drivers and run RivaTuner. Mine shows its 72°C at all times, idle and at full load. EVEREST Ultimate shows me the temp though. Never over 70°C at full load. I bet RealTemp is having the same problem. Do not use RivaTuner for fan control, use MSI Afterburner. I really hope Nvidia brings back fan control in its own driver/software. My next test is to hook up my one bad GTX295 with my other one and see if I can put them in SLI.

Also there is a 195.62 WHQL driver and a 195.62 beta driver. Im on the 195.62 WHQL driver.
