Win7 + Messenger = Odd Problem

Hi all,

When I open messenger and click on the e-mail icon it opens firefox and everything and takes me to the hotmail site, but it asks me to login... and more odd is that its the old MSN Hotmail logon page, With "MSN Hotmail is changing... to Windows Live Hotmail" near the top and "2006 Microsoft" at the bottom of the page.

So it takes me to a pre Windows Live page?

In the past, before I HAD to upgrade to the latest version of messenger or I couldn't sign in, I just clicked on the e-mail icon on messenger and just went to my windows live/hotmail inbox page.

Now it's all this old MSN stuff and it wants me to login everytime even though im logged into messenger!

It's driving me mad, no idea whats going on, Microsoft at fault?

Anyway... ANY help would be really great

Cheers all.

Im pretty sure it auto logs in only when using internet explorer log into msn and then launch ie and go to hotmail.com manually you shouldn't have to enter your password, if your default browsers Firefox then it wont work properly atleast thats how it is for me.

Well I just treied this too and got the exact page you are talking about ...

"ninemsn HotmailŪ is changing... to Windows Live™ HotmailŪ"

I am using the most up to date windows Live messenger too, and come to think of it it's been doing it a while, but it never really got to me.

A why would be nice tho

EDIT: oops just saw that, had this page open for a while, I hate ie so much

To wolf,

Yeah I hate IE like theres no tomorrow aswell, but until firefox (or stuffplug) is updated we're stuck with IE... (though it's only used while in messenger).

To Dr. Death

I don't dislike Google Chrome but I can't help but feel (having used it) that it has been simplified to the point where everything is a pain in the rear to find and access. Plus (though I haven't tried) toolbars appear to be an issue aswell.

Meh, Opera sometimes lets me through without logging in, sometimes I have to... I don't really care anymore. But it was kind of obvious that It'd work with IE

years and years of bad experiences have made me shun it.

Also the amount that I have tried to rid it from having icons and running by itself, and from time to time it still manages to open all on its own when I don't want it to.

dear god make it stop!

Choppy, I have IE installed I have to really I've noticed that firefox doesn't work correctly on some sites on the web. Also firefox wont let me click the apply buttons and stuff on my routers software, so I do it with IE and it's fine.

I choose not to use it as my main browser because I like wolf have had bad experiences with it, for example (while I was using IE8 and XP) I would go on to a site like newgrounds witch (if you plan on watching flash work atleast) you need flash player, I already had that installed but IE just gave me the link for the adobe site. So reinstalled it, back on newgrounds same problem. Also on forums like here at tech power up at the top of this "Quick Reply" im using now all the bold, underline and other icons wouldn't come up... so you could never see what your doing, among a few other annoying bits and pieces.

So I guess between the two they make a fairly good browser lol.

Never had a problem with Firefox and hotmail, Saying that i stopped using msn a while back because of the adverts and annoying gifs everyone used as their display pic. I switched to Miranda IM which is open sorce and fully customizable and weighs in at only 2mb and never looked back.
