TPU Contest ideas...what's yours?

W1zzard has asked me to start coordinating contests for techpowerup. I thought the best way to get this rolling was to ask you guys, the TPU community for your ideas. This is a brainstorming thread, so all constructive ideas are appreciated. Things to consider are:

What kind of contests would be fun?
What kind of prizes would you like to see offered?

Also ideas for giveaways would be nice

Small item modding
under 50$ spent
Under 100$ spent
First time modding
Bad boy of case modding ( title awarded to high end case modding contest winner)

Short term!
Design contests
Over clocking contests
etc

Overclocking in different cathegories would be nice. Put the low-end users agains each other, high-end vs high-end and so on..

Purely aesthetic contests!

Much more accessible then modding contests as everyone can cable manage and colour coordinate and things like that.

How about making this question a contest on its own?

"Submit your contest ideas and win!"

Well, afaik TPU is all about powering up, whether it is new hardware, overclocking, modding or tweaking. Whatever the contest is, it should be something that involves the spirit of TPU itself.

I don't have any solid ideas atm, so I'm just subscribing until I get one.

I would like a contest that promotes site based activity. Like the most thanked useful posts in the next 2 weeks. This would encourage people to make useful posts, help out, and win great prizes. Or the most intresting thread based on views, and user input. A thread like a subjective comparison between items, new software, how to, etc.... Let the thread views and user comments and thanks drive the contest/gifting.

The "Design you own graphics card" contest was awesome, but not everyone is good with graphic arts. Similarly, not everyone here overclocks and mods.

For that reason I think that the contests should vary, so there is the potential of eventually including everyone.

Take a picture of a piece of computer hardware in a place you would not normally expect to see it? The most amusing/interesting picture wins?

For example, a picture of your graphics card watching the sunrise on a bench in central park? It doesn't have to be new hardware, use that old PIII sitting in a drawer gathering dust.

I can certainly agree with these 2 statements. i would love to see some more Oc contests, with different catagories of not only skill and hardware levels, but also by types of heatsinks and possibly cpu's used. also possibly have 2 catagories for each oc contest, 1 wwinner by highest benchmark and 1 winner by highest OC(highest GHz) or Best OC(as in most amount raised)

that would cause a moderators nightmare.

How about a treasure trove, admin posts a new question every day getting harder and harder every day. First 20 people to post the answers at the end of the week get put into a draw, one guy wins - gets something.

How about a Contest, Of a group of hardware and such.

Like who has the most video cards?

Who has the WHOLE collection of the 8800 series.

8400gs/8500gs/8600gt/8800gs/8800gt/8800gts/8800gtx/8800ultra

I would love to start collecting some cards, For a model set in my room

These ideas are good but IMO very limited.

IE not everyone clocks, has a good camera, or can even open photoshop.

I think we should come up with something that can serve to every member of TPU, n00bz and l33t3st alike

Modding contests can cause many problems unless run by experts. So rather than a reg modding contest how about contests geared towards improving things.(cases, hardware etc)

There should be incentive to get noobs to join in.

How about pitting one forum against another?

And getting people to work together would be a first (not just always stressing the individual)

like east coast VS west cost (for us US guys) or AMD VS Intel, ATI VS Nvidia guys etc...
