My Heatercore w/ Shroud Mod

I just picked this up at the dump today (for $1.60, it wieghs 2 pouds and was sold to me as scrap metal at 80 cents a pound!), and after a few hours of cutting, measuring, and glueing acrylic togather for a with a 120mm fan. Here is my finished project. I also had to take a screwdriver and take a bunch of huge dents out of it, and fix a leak where the pipe connects to the heatercore with my soldiering iron. Let me know what you think.

Now all I need is a pump, and a block. I'm working on making my own res.

Copper and alluminum. Everything is copper but the fins themselves, which are alluminum. Any ideas on where I can get a good, cheap, 1/2 ID pump?

just to test it out. Than I got a bucket and filled it with dry ice pieces and put the rad in it (without fans) That worked the best.

Damn! That sounds like fun. It wouldnt be a good perminent solution though... corrosion would also be a problem.

I have a bunch of old Hotrod stuff,(braided steel line,AN fittings, its 1000 psi) The cpu block is 80psi,lol

But Im having troublefinding fittings that will adapt the AN fittings to the 1/4" CPU block(it has straight threads)

Awesome shroud you made.

I just would make sure you do leak testing for 24hours before installing it. I don't trust dented and cracked objects in my PC with water running through it LOL.

People use heatercores from cars everyday in watercooling setups. They make cheap effective radiators.

The only thing that can possibly be stupid is the fact he had to fix it using solder.. but if it works, it works!

Just remember to leaktest.

It wasnt normal soldier I used either... it was for repairing welds.

The main reason you cannot find 1/2 to 1/4 adaptors is because doing that is very foolish. The pump is going to strain alot and it will more than likely break the seal on your waterblock. Trying to shove 1/2 of water into a 1/4 inch hole isn't going to do much good. I would say buy a 1/4 pump since they are cheaper and a wiser choice.

dude get a fish tank pump i was at like pet world or whatever the other day go into the tank section and look around i saw like this one pump for like those 100gallon salt water tank i dk who will disagree but that thing was damn solit it was like $80 and im pretty sure it could pump whatever you threw at it.

The cheapest good pump you are going to be able to find is the Hydor L25 IMO... but I'm having a hard time finding one..
