Before I go even crazier lol.

I ordered one from OcUK on the 9th January. I sent them a webnote they said I shouldn't be waiting more than 2 weeks. To-date 26th January I still have nothing in my email, no shipping note, and no eta on their website. Word's going round on their forums that the 5970's wouldn't be available before end February / early March, which is quite outrageous.

Basically I'm looking for someone to do me a favour. I'll send an immediate paypal payment, and you send me the card. It has to be someone who shows trust, it's understandable because this isn't cheap.... :ohwell: Obviously don't tell me you'll be sending the card in February or March because then I might as well go with OcUK...

I'd be preferring shippers from the EU, but am ready to accept worldwide provided the package gets marked as a 'gift'.

Any reply would veer me ever so slightly on the 'sanity lane'

This guy has one for sale:

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1487338

But he says no international shipping. You could try to sweet-talk him into shipping to you, or you could have it shipped to a US friend/family member and have them send to you.

I would have no problem doing it. Unfortunately there isn't a single 5970 in stock anywhere right now. How about a couple 5850's?

I would just chill till stock starts to surface seeing as how they are over priced now due to availability. Plus the vendor that manufactures the GPU's now has there process straightened out and yields should be good which we should start seeing soon.

Novatech in the UK report they have 1 in stock of each of the HIS and MSI models for £634 and £633 respectively, + Delivery to me next day for £7. I'd have to find out what shipping to Malta would cost, but I'd be willing to do it if you want. Dunno where you'd stand with the warranty though...

That's almost $1000 USD a pop... if I were BP I'd buy the PowerColor liquid cooled version and still save a few bucks.

You can't compare US and UK prices as we have 17.5% VAT on top.

EDIT: Just checked ocuk's price, £540! But thats the difference between pre-order vapourware and actual physical stock.

I've tried everywhere, but there arent any on sale! Pheew, they are a hot commodity right now! There are a couple of ones on ebay though, but they arent from shops (i don't know why but I don't trust individuals, not since a pal got a geforce 7600gt which detects as a 6200gt). Prices are high though $700+.

Wouldn't be that hard to ship from the US would it? It'd take a couple more days at most via USPS priority.

Is that an insured service though? For a high value item like this that can't be cheap. Still, no skin off my nose, just making the offer...

Plus, Malta and the UK are within the EU. I reckon you'd get stung import duties if you shipped from the USA

Like one or two others are saying, I strongly recommend that you just wait until availability improves.

Even if you deal with someone that's totally trustworthy, it's still extra hassle, expense and the warranty situation can be tricky. It's that last one that really nails it for me. Why spend so much hard cash only to have to do it through that person or worse, end up being denied warranty?

For what it's worth, I'm an impulsive kind of guy and I understand all about the anxiety of having to wait for something, but it's well worth it. :)

Why not use the money to upgrade your daughter's rig instead? I reckon she will benefit more from an upgrade than you do, Gwenhwyvar can still kick a lot of ass.

Thanks for now. I'm waiting for a reply from OcUK, but mainly I'm closing this thread because I'm getting second thoughts about the warranty issue were I to buy through a middle-man. It'd be worth if I get a cheap bargain, but it appears unlikely for a 5970...
