Video Card Upgrade

Hey guys of the forums. I was thinking about upgrading my Nvidia GTX+ 9800 to something. I would prefer a DX11 card, but the ATI 5850/70 is way out of range. Also, cheaper with more power is always better. If any of you know can you help me compare:

ATI 5770 vs Nvidia GTX 260

I would prefer that the card have a HDMI port, and 2 DVIs, as for connection speed. Help please and thanks in advanced.

The 5770 and 260 run neck and neck in most titles. 5770 wins for DX11 support and lower power draw.

I'd go for the HD5770, it's as fast as the GTX 260, cooler, uses less power, had Eyefinity, DX11, etc

Well I was going to suggest the 4870 but not sure they have an HDMI port. I picked one up over the 5770 and it is extremely fast but mine doesn't have the HDMI port. Tosses my brothers 5670 around like a rag doll. Plus it had an excellent review.

Sweet. Thanks guys, I should be ordering before the 28th, and I'll let you know how it turns out.

And here is some back story on my upgrade.
I have the 9800GTX+ Nvidia, and at my work they just upgraded to DX11. One of the computer guys there said there was an extremely noticeable difference on screen. So I thought hey lets just get a new card for my tower. And I should be able to do it for about <70 bucks.

BTW is it possible to sell an Nvidia 9800GTX+ that only 8 months old and in a very well ventilated case for 100 bucks?

Yeah that sould be a good price. Anyways, you can get new 9800gtx's @ $130+ on ebay so try it. If it doesn't go, well just lower the price a bit more

If you want DX11 support, the HD 5770 is it. The GTX 260 is the faster of the two in most titles though, especially my new one.

Is the speed difference between the GTX260 and the HD5770 that big? I have looked at a number of benchmark charts on the interwebs, and cannot find that big of a difference, other than like 2-5 fps/

And I am now totally selling my 9800 GTX+ for 100 bucks, my parents think I am crazy though for upgrading my only like 8 month old computer again.(Previous upgrade: Xigmatek Dark Knight[Thanks to the wonderful people here] and a case fan.) I dont think its crazy, more of a future proofing. Because soon this year games are bound to all go to DX11, and my DX10 card would be a waste.

Also does it do anything to have multiple monitor cables connected? My monitor has a VGA, DVI, and HDMI, if I connected both the DVI and HDMI does that help anything at all>?

Go with a 5770. Less power needed and DX11 support. My 5770 with a very small overclock spanks the 260 on the ass while making it call him daddy. :pimp:

At stock clocks it will out preform most 260's hands down.

I would go with something at least x2 the 9800GTX+, and I'm talking about minimum FPS.

HD5770 is ~20% faster than GTS250 (basicly a 9800GTX+). Is the upgrade really worth it?

Or the HD5830, at least. It's coming sooon.

I dunno... I'd go for something a little faster than the 5770. If you want to compare the two cards take a look here.

Doesn't seem like much of an improvement. You might see 5 FPS more maybe. Depending on the system. I would look for something atleast 2x faster than what you have as stated above.

Hmm.....You might be right. There are pretty close to each other in the mid-high quality settings. But the Max is what really matters to me, and the DX11 support, thats the main reason I am getting the card.

Well if DX11 is the reason and you want to get one now, I'd say save up and wait for an HD5830 or 50 to come into your price-range. The 5770's are great, people love to CF them...I'm thinking of going 5850 myself...just wish I would see more at their $250 msrp...

I would say wait and see if fermi will bring down prices and then choose from there. Also there is rumors that ati will be introducing a 5830.

That review is of the SOC version from Gigabyte

The 5770 is not even included in that review, I don't know what you are trying to do. :slap:

go with xfx,sapphire,his,msi,asus. xfx has a double lifetime warranty, rest have 2-3 year warranties. from what i know all those have good rma processes, i havent experienced any but ive heard about em.
