My A/C Chiller Mod

Here's what I have so far. I got this a few days ago, and have been working on it like crazy. Bending these copper pipes scares the heck out of me, one false move and its a dead A/C.

So far I've done so good, and I think I'm done bending. I've tested it and it can chill water to -30C.

Anyways, here are some pics, without the cooler of water. Now all I need is a pump, a block, and a good, cheap method to prevent condensation. I got this A/C for 30 bucks off of some college kid who was moving out of his apartment.

So far I've spent $31.80 on my watercooling. BTW, this thing is loud as hell. As loud if not louder than a vacuum.

When the unit is that big, it becomes a real strange cooling system. Plz post quality pics. But otherwise, COOL I want one!

I've got that block of AL I was telling you about, and I have a couple 1/2" od barbs to 3/8" NPT thread, plus a couple o-rings to go with it. It's not going anywhere, so if you want it you can have it no cost if you pick it up next time you're in town, or I can drop it off at your GP's house if they're in town.

I'd rather sell it, but I'll give it to ya if you can use it. Plus, I can say I had a hand in your crazy-ass project.

Better get some neoprene while you're at it...

I'm really clueless about how I'm going to manage my condensation. Any ideas? BTW whats neoprene?

Neoprene is insulation.

It's black rubber, if you ever seen someone use black rubber to prevent condensation, that was probably neoprene used.

Like you ever seen a scuba suit, that is neoprene. Also, sometimes mousepads too.

Get a whole bunch of those old mousepads that schools usually use. Take off the fabric, and viola.

id say try some clear acrilic spray paint for the mobo just make sure to tape off the socket so it dont get on the pin contacts atleast thats the best i can come up with at the moment im sure thers a beter way

maybe you could....glue.....the neoprene on with super glue? It's kinda permanent for the processor and everything else, but it'll prevent condensation I'm pretty sure.

neoprene can be bought from dangerden and pretty much any online retaile who sells phase change or peltiers.
as for moisture control, better read a few articles google peltier/phasechange insulation.

you'll need more than just neoprene lol.

Neoprene, adhesive, and dielectric grease is pretty much all you need.

neoprene, non-conformal coating spray (sp?) and lubrex die electric grease

the neoprene goes around the blocks and tubing, the spray is for the motherboard and the dieelectric grease is for the cpu skt :toast:

ive been woundering about phase change cooling.. my idea was to back fill a air tight case with inert gas to keep moister out. maybe not a good idea? dunno. i thought it would be a easy way to control heat sense you can just pipe the stuff that needs air to cool off, like on an air conditioner, outside the case. dunno if inert gasses exchange heat or not? anyone know about that? you can also use mineral oil, they use it in power transformers, and it wont makes yoru system short, not sure how well it holds up to extream colds though.. that is anouther cheap way to go. i know a guy used a home a/c on his system and ended up getting water build up and made his proccessor rust.

what a/c unit you using anyway? and how much it cost?

Funnel system from exhaust to powerful case extractor fan works, easy to rig and lightweight, can be any solid material like a plastic funnel for gas can with larger open end or wide plastic tubing, I am sure with some creativity you could even make it cosmetically pleasing, let the extractor suck it outta the tube, will work if the distance between exhaust and fan is not too great, seen one in action (but that was in a home made distillery!) but same principle, worked a treat.
