Well it seems the problems I had in the past are coming back to haunt me again :banghead:

I have two 5850's (My main one is XFX XXX Black Edition and second one is PowerColor)

They are installed correctly into the slots and they both have power to it (my +12v is 10.90v) and I have a powerful PSU (Apevia Warlock 750watt)

Okay so here is my problem. I went to go overclock on my ATI Overdrive and everything was running well. When I went to try to run my Manual Fan Control for my second card, it would go and then stop. However the fan is still running.

Also, my XFX card is showing only a GPU Clock of 157 MHz with a Clock of 300MHz????

What am I doing wrong here? All my drives are updated and installed correctly.

And why does my GPU Clock and Memory Clock say 000MHz for my PowerColor card?

I never saw/heard from this before. I will try to take the card out and put it back in, I will give you results when I come back from my trial and error

Thanks,

Alexsubri

PS - Here are my pics so you can get a better picture:

157/300 is power-saving. 000/000 is just how it works currently with these drivers...no clock reporting.

Everything sounds fine to me...adjsuting slave cards currently causes issues with these drviers due to the added power-saving features, the best I can tell. Hopefully 10.3 final fixes it.

How can I overclock it or get it off from Powersaving? Should I roll back the driver?

Also, why can't I still run my fan at max speed on my slave card? Does this driver have a bug?

Yes, driver is bugged, at least, it seems both you and I have this bug.

Set speeds, and when 3D is launched, the speeds will increase to your selected clocks in Overdrive panel. On desktop, card lowers clocks to 157/300 to save power.

With these new drivers it puts the 2nd card in a ultra low power state, hence it basically shuts it down when not in use. It is normal for the cards to downclock in 2d settings. No need to change that.

To get your 2nd card out of ULPS you need to do this:

I talked to a gentleman at ATi, this is not a bug, it's a feature. You can turn off the ultra low power state by going to the registry, tick the "Computer" icon, hit ctrl+f (to search) and input "EnableUlps" in the field. One entry will come up highlighted. Right click it, tick Modify and change the value from 1 to 0 to turn it off. Restart

Nice info, erocker!

Problem though...mine's already off.

Thanks! Yeah, I have no idea why it's automatically on for some and off for others? Actually, I manually delete registry entries when I reinstall drivers, so that could be it. Still sounds like a "bugged" feature to me. I just keep ULPS on now. The 2nd card will "turn on" on set to the clocks/fan speed I set it at once a 3d app starts. It also solves flash player problems for me. It seems with the power saving feature on, Flash will use just one card and the cards won't fight over Flash causing stuttering.

In the registry you have to keep searching. I think I found about 10 instances of EnableUlps that all needed to be changed to 0 to get rid of the power saving features in Catalyst 10.2.

At idle the difference in power savings is only about 3 or 4 watts on my Kill-a-Watt so not really worth it for a lot of users.

For Intel users, I recently added better CrossFire support to RealTemp. You can download the latest beta here:

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/3/1794507/RealTempBeta.zip

Just add GPU=2 to the RealTemp.ini file for ATI GPU reporting.

Thank You very much Erocker... :) I had the same problem with two Sapphire ATi AMD HD5870 Vapor-X 1GB OC and Catalyst 10.3 :toast:

Editing the registry and setting the value 0 in the field EnableUlps appears that performance improves a bit in crossfire on the card instead of TV takes away performance in the TDT Card

My best regards

Hmm, this sounds cool. Another point for me going crossfire as I have my system on 24/7 and automatic shutdown for second card would be great

I'd need the second card just in games, so if it wakes up then and sleeps the rest of the time that's perfect.
