and other sources including Catalystmaker's own tweet there will be an update to Cat 10.3 Preview labeled as Cat 10.3a. You should watch AMD's underground website for the release of these drivers. [H]'s review does provide a list of improvements. However, it appears that there will performance improvements on a more global PC gaming scale. IMO, the actual % improvement may depend on your PC. Furthermore, will still need to be reviewed for confirmation.

The difference between Cat 10.3 preview and Cat 10.3a is said that Cat 10.3 preview is from the official WHQL Cat 10.3 drivers which will be released on March 26, 2010. While Cat 10.3a will be a newer version from both Cat 10.3 preview and the Official Cat 10.3 offering better performance. In all this appears to be a preemptive strike against Fermi.

These are consider performance drivers. I would assume that stability drivers will be found in the official Cat 10.3 WHQL which will be released on March 26, 2010.

The Performance Driver

AMD is referring to this new 10.3a driver internally as "The Performance Driver." As you might guess, we have been wondering exactly what is gong to perform better and it looks as if AMD is not just blowing PR smoke on this point. Here is an AMD-supplied list of gaming performance improvements. These are NOT HardOCP in-house test numbers, so they are to be taken with a grain of salt. But surely the 10.3 driver looks to be a big step forward as AMD had made some impactful tweaks to its Catalyst driver set. It is very interesting to note that not all the performance benefits are only extended to the Radeon 5000 series but also to the Radeon 4800 series of GPUs as well.

its great how their still showing the 4800's some love but IMHO some of the tweaks should have happend a LONG LONG time ago....such as CoD:World At War. how long has the game been out & they are declaring a 6% boost now??? also since MW2 & BC2 has been released A lot of servers went down for good.

L4D2 - Strangely enough this game is easier to run then L4D1 because of how 'cartoony' or 'soft' the graphics are even with 8xAA & 16xAF - Only 3%???

Guys I'm downgrading to a HD 4850 tomorrow from my GTX 275, what's the normal procedure when changing from an Nvidia card to an ATI card regarding driver uninstallation and then installation of new drivers, any help please?

Uninstall old drivers>Run Driver Sweeper/cleaner>restart/Change hardware>install new drivers

I was guessing, keeping the second round suprize in a bag. They did so well with this card and the features that why not with driver improvements?

20% improvement on Dirt 2, and a stable overclock of 20% on air for most...Right there is your huge improvement over the previous generation, and a asswhooping on Nvidia's parade. Then again, they still haven't had a parade, they are still trying to keep their float from burning down.

Nice performance boost in dirt 2! although i'm assuming the 20% is for crossfired hd5870 cards. The 6% in warhead is just for review benchmarks benefit though tbh, no-one is fussed about crysis as a game any more. It's okay, but without the graphics it's only a 7/10 game

I'll be happy in dirt 2 if i can finally enable triple buffered vsync

it only double buffers! so if i drop below 60fps (which it does on some tracks like Japan with the crowds) it instantly goes down to 30

or maybe the boost will tip it over the 60fps barrier all the time
