Hi, I'm having a problem with my 9800, it seems the power cable sorta burned one of the pins and it doesn't work anymore.
Thing is, I've kept my PC on for about 4 days downloading things, and I underclocked my card to 300/300, so it wouldn't overheat needlessly.
Yesterday, I turned it off and when I turned it on again some hours later I got the message about no power cable connected to my 9800.
I opened my PC and everything seemed to be connected the right way, but after several tries at turning on my PC and getting the same message, I removed the cable and noticed that the pin that comes from the red cable ( + I assume) was brown, both at the end that receives the power from the PSU, and at the end that connects to the card itself.
It seems the corresponding pin in the card molex connecter is brown too.
I connected the video card directly to the PSU and it is working without any problems.
I tried the power cable by connecting it to an HDD and a DVD drive at the same time, and both of them seems to work ok, altough, if I restart my PC with a disc inside the DVD drive, the HDD won't start.
So, there's no doubt the power cable burned out, but my questions are:
Is it safe to connect my video card directly to the PSU? (seems to be working ok at this time)
What do you guys think caused the cable to burn, even with the vidcard underclocked? (300/300)
I have an Omega 450W PSU. Thanks for your help.
