Asus 5870 V2 PCB pics & voltage info

Using RBE, I was able to determine the registers cannot be tweaked. However, default 3D voltage is set to a robust 1.21v, which allowed a quick jump to 930 core on both my cards. I'm happy with this for CF.

Default voltage of 1.21v, registers tweaking not available:

Afterburner voltage tweaking not available:

For those who want to push more volts, looks like you'll be using Asus Smart Doctor.

The fan idles at 22% and is quite noisy at 50%. At 100%, it literally sounds like a hair dryer. The upside, it has a very gradual fan profile which puts fan around 35% @ 60c. If the cooler proves itself, fan shouldn't have to ramp up much higher anyway.

Nice looking card:

Rounded edges = sexy:

PCB overall:

GPU area:

PWM area:

GPU contact:

Three very large heatpipes inside:

High quality rubbery pads with a tacky thermal paste feel are used. Decent GPU interface was used. For most, don't worry about trying to improve on things. Contact was excellent:

And here they are in my rig:

Interesting that it has 8-pin connector, AND copper cooler...high leakage chips, maybe? Keep us informed of how it clocks!

Oops I didn't see your thread. I'd have posted there. I haven't installed them yet. I'm interested to see if voltage is tweakable using Afterburner, but I'm really hoping RBE allow register tweaking. Will be working with them tomorrow!

lol its not a thread i made i just posted it them there, i thought about making a thread but i just got my card installed last night
and only thing i used to adjust the volts is smartdoctor i really dont like it, it doesnt move the core or mem 1 at a time and sometimes it sets it lower then wut you can set it at lol

i think someone in oc.net forum said it wasnt suported yet think he tryed it so you say them do you have 2 of them ?

Just checked your pics, I was gonna take the cover off but got lazy. Nice copper fin pic. I'm not a fan of any Asus software, will suck if neither Afterburner or RBE won't work. Oh well.

Yep I grabbed two, looking forwad to CF. A newegg review said he was doing 1005 core with very decent temps. Looking forward to seeing what they can do. Looks very capable. They prolly could have set them to 900 core and called it a TOP or something.

I wish it had a backplate, but they're usually looking to save $ per unit when designing a non-ref.

Thanks for you both on the pics (SteelSix & DOM). One of the sexies stock cooled cards, if not Teh sex. Looks like it's meant for business and temps/sound should be good?

I'm only interested this is 5850 variant, if they ever make one, but it might cost as much as reference card+after market cooler.

Oh and the PCI-E slot cover is a nice touch, my ASUS GTX 280 'only' had DVI ports/components out and SLI cover.

Thanks for the pics. How is the copper part fixed on the base plate? Can it be disassebled for using a gpu only watercooling?

Ah, I'd have to tear it down again, I didn't notice. Check Dom's pics, maybe an angle that's shed light.

*also a bump to show voltage info*

ok thanks for the answer, but from the pics it looks like it can be removed? How is it fixed on the baseplate? I got the card yesterday, but if you say it is impossible to remove it i will not disassemble it:cry:

ok thanks.
whats the 1.13V shown by Asus Smart doc? the asus tool shows 850/1200 but only 1.13V. I think 1.21 should be correct (RBE)? What happens if i set the voltage to 1.25V? Does it mean "real" 1.25V or will i get an offset? i mean 1.21V (if this is the correct 3d default voltage) + 0,12 =1.33V ?

That card is sexy. e-tailer pics don't do that baby any justice.

@ steelSix. Asus Smart Doctor ins't that bad. I know it's preferable to use MSI AB since you can save profiles but if you need more voltage you don't really have any other options. I use it.. it could be worse.

thats how mine is 1.13v then if i set it to default it goes to 1.18v which is stock on other 5870

what you set it its suppose to be at that volt ,if i knew the points to measure the volts i could check them on the multimeter

i use smartdoctor to set the volts and ccc to set the clocks

Thanks. I may use it later but I'm quite happy with 930 on default voltage. Crossfire rocks pretty good..

i think mine was 960/1240 on stock volts

also using 10.3b drivers made GTA4 play alot better

Doing 1250 on memory, no need for more IMO. That's a nice oc on stock volts. Cool isn't it?

Very stable power, Asus knows their stuff when it comes to this.

It's funny when you think about it, 58xx gpus have been out for half a year, and to keep things interesting, AMD gives the green light to board partners to do what they wish. We're seeing some damn fine cards as a result. 5870 has so many good qualities, from great overclocking, decent power consumption, good temps, performance, etc. To top it off, AMD seems very focused on drivers. All fanboy bullshit aside, the last two years for ATI/AMD have been inspiring. Business is tough, failures happen every day by the hundreds. 5870 is a GPU I'm proud to own. It's a workhorse..
