Ok i bought a DFI 790FX board from T77 that was dead. My plan was to figure out what was wrong with it and fix it the best i could. If i couldnt fix it i was gonna use it as a soldering experiment. Well i first took out the Cmos Battery when i got the board and left it out for 24 hours. I then checked the board in a bright light environment to see if there was a burnt place which there wassnt so when i went to replace the CMOS batter i noticed some corrosion on the contacts of the + side of the battery. I then took a sanding block and smoothed it out back down to the metal and reinstalled. Well to my surprise the board booted first time with a 8400GS and 1 stick of 2gb DDR2-800!!! im so excited! THANKS T77!!!

This first picture you cannot see the screen well but it was on the post screen.

This second picture you i turned the monitor around so you can see the post screen!

yea thats one thing that i need to do is get some stock heatsinks from someone cause i DO NOT want to run this board without them. IMMA create a WTB thread for some NB/SB heatsinks off random dead motherboards to see if i can find some that will work on it. I think i have a 40mm or smalled fan some were the will probly fit on a stock heatsink.

Well, I can get you a SB HS, I doubt the NB HS on the 790GX-M2RS will work...

HOLY CRAP! You got it working! Well then you just got yourself a sweeeet deal!:D After shipping costs I only got 5 bucks from it:roll: Congrats brandon! Enjoy the board and overclock the Athlon X2 to 4.0;) I would recommend getting good heatsinks because this chipset on that DFI gets pretty toasty.

Thanks T77!!! i found a old S478 board in my closet that had a heatsink but it didnt have the bolt holes so i put some tim in it and used a stiff plastic coated aluminum wire to hold it down. Im going to boot it again and go into the bios to see what the NB temps are like.

I did manage to find some random heatsinks after I shipped the board, I could send them to you with some thermal tape because them don't have pins? Is Flyordie going to give you the SB cooler?

I just got my DFI X38 board back from RMA the other day. It was a open box newegg item long out of warranty but as usual DFI repaired it for the cost of shipping it to them. Ripper3 Might try emailing Susana (susana@dfiweb.com).

Thanks guys! im happy too! i was looking on the DFI forums and this is one of there boards that will be updated to use 6 core CPUs so im def planning on getting on of those for it when i can afford it. I looked at some heatsinks on ebay and they were ok so if i cannot find any here in the forums i might get two from there.

Alright! i robbed the heatsinks off my MSI G33M motherboard but they wernt the right sizes so i got them held on with plastic coated wire with some good tim under them until i can get some that fit right. I also put it in a case with my Evercool Transformer 4 heatsink with a sorta push/pull system. overall it runs good (besides the make shift heatsinks). I also did some light overclocking on stock voltage and got it running 3.2ghz linx stable for 30 minutes (i know not long enough but im installing drivers).
