Hey,

I just recently got my system upgraded and running. (Asus AV8 AMD Athlon 64 3500+) I have the Thermaltake Blue OrbII CPU Fan. What I don't get is why after the setup screen goes through (after bios screen) when reading all the drives it tells me this...

"CPU Fan Error"

My thoughts are that its just spinning at a low RPM and the mobo thinks that it needs to spin faster. The CPU is cool and running 34 degrees celcius @idle/@load its 40C, and the enviroment of my PC is 31 degress celcius (In case). The fan is running at 1634RPMS and its highlighted red in bios menu. I can't adjust the fan to spin faster also. Is there any thing I can do to make the "warning" (CPU Fan Error) go away? Anyway to hot wire the fan to spin faster? :D

Thanks for the help
Jd

P.S.
Also when I try to OC my CPU it becomes kinda unstable, could this be the cause? My CPU is: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Clawhammer (2.2GHz/L2 Cache 512kb/90mn) It can be OC'd well, but maybe the CPU Fan is effecting its potential? Thanks for any help again.

I think I remember reading something about this on either one of the hardware review sites (think anandtech or toms). They had the same problem and had to raise the fan rpm or adjust something in the bios to make it not sound an alarm. I think you have to change a value for the fan alarm level. Try doing something to that effect. Most AMDs with their cool n quiet technology has a setting that allows you to adjust fan settings. I think this is your problem.

I looked everywhere in bios to adjust the fan speed. It won't let me. I then looked how fast the TT Orb can spin, and it can only spin at 1700RPM's MAX. Its a HHUUGGEE fan so its cooling really well. I know that for sure. I have Cool N' Quiet "Enabled" in bios. Is there a hot wire guide to make this thing spin faster. I thinks its effecting Overclockability on my CPU. Is there anyway to have the mobo or bios ignore the speed of the fan and just soly concentrate on the degree of the CPU? Thanks

Jd

Ugh, some help Im being. I know its supposed to be a setting I think in the fan alarm. If its not in there, then Im not sure. But I know Ive read either on ANANDTECH.com or TOMSHARDWARE or perhaps in CPU or Maximum PC about them having the same problems and that they had to disable the fan alarm in an AMD system. With MSI is the CORECELL deal (software used to overclock and manage temperatures and such)

You dont have your system specs listed so I cant see what mobo you have and therefore cannot look up anything to check. Try adjusting the fan alarm ****IF**** its possible.

EDIT: HAHA! NM I see your mobo. Lemme do a quick look around

I see that its the K8T800 Pro chipset ( I have an nForce 3 ultra ) and it uses ASUS' Q-Fan software. Does that software have a setting in there for Fan Alarms?

EDIT: Also uses American Megatrends ( I think thats what AMI Bios is) bios. Hmm...

I remember looking in bios at the fan RPM it had an option to "Ignore" but I am not sure if its selectable. Thanks for your help. I am pretty sure I can disable the fan warning. But that wont effect monitoring temps, correct?

Thanks again

No, it wont affect monitoring your temps. On my mobo, the fan alarm is where it will sound an alarm if its not up to "minimum" spin or RPMs. I dont have that problem, but I know with someof the new newer Aftermarket coolers, especially the slow spinning huge ones, it causes a bit of a conflict, it doesnt hurt, just a little aggravating. That should help your problem there. Good luck and no problem.

Not sure this might help. But you can plug the original stock fan on to the motherboard and let it run. and than plug your TT blu orb2 fan to the powersuply. That way if its the rpm too low you still can run the pc. And if it still cant run its someother thing is wrong. But if its the fan rpm too low this way you should be able to run your pc cos the motherboard will read the rpm from the stock fan.

Yes, the bios and other software is "American Megatrends. I am not at home (work :D ) So i can't see if I can turn off the fan rpm monitor speed in bios.

The CPU was OEM, didn't come with the stock fan. The computer runs flawlessly just when I try to OC it seems to become troublsome. But running it at 2.2GHz its flawless and runs very smooth!

Thanks for all the replies.

In the Bios, go to uGuru (the top pick).

In the UGuru utility screen, look at the top, it's like a tabbed dialog, move to "Abit EQ"

"Fan speed monitoring" is the fourth one down, highlight and <enter>
Use arrow keys to move around, use the spacebar to turn off shutdown or beep enable. I'm not sure if you can set the lower limit.

I have a watercooler on my AG8 and had to go through this. The BIOS options are virtually identical - I even downloaded and looked at your manual to make sure. ;)

 I looked at your manual (the right one) - have you messed around with CPU Q-Fan Control? There is some "CPU Fan Ratio" control there - don't know if that has any value for your situation... it's in the "power" section of your bios - luck.

Hmm, I remember glancing at it. I'll see if I can ignore the RPMs on the fan when I get home. I'll post if I fix it. Thxs again. TPU forums rock! :rockout:

I might be to late, but when it says "CPU Fan Error" or a similar message, it means that either the RPM of the fan is too low, or that you have no fan connected. In both of my computers there is an option in the BIOS (not sure which one, just wander through the options) that says "CPU Fan Check" and you have the options "Disable" or "Enable". I believe "Enable" is the default, so that if the fan is running too slow, or if you don't have one attached, it will show you the warning. It's best to disable it in your case.

Sorry if someone already posted the same, but I have no time to read previous posts, (High) School just started and I have no time for anything.

Yea I got it fixed! :D All I did was ignore the RPM on the fan in bios, and I don't have the error message anymore. OC'd my CPU a little bit to and its running real stable! Its weird that it does that. I wish you could adjust the RPM on the fan to run faster. But thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it!

Well, that is what I meant when I said disable (ignore) haha! Good job, glad it worked out for you.
