My uncle wants a new computer, and he's asking me to build it for him. It's going to be AM2, not Core 2 Duo ok, sorry, but AM2 will support AM3, and he and I think it's better. Anyways, here are the specs, slight gaming, and editing etc.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor AM2 (Dual-Core)
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition AM2 (high end, and wireless LAN)
2x G.Skill 512Mb DDR2 800 (doesn't need 2GB...yet)
2x80GB Wester Digital Caviar SE (RAID performance)
eVGA nVidia GeForce 7600GS (Slight gaming as I said earlier, maybe SLI later)
Thermaltake 500 Watt PSU (Enough for his specs)
RaidMax Astro

Also Arctic Freezer 64 Pro for the CPU.

Everything look good for what he does? He's going to be using applications and such, editing. And his son (my cousin) will be playing some games, not too graphic intensive. Maybe SLI later on w/ another 7600GS (I heard they're overclockable). He needs dual-core as he runs several apps, and for future too. 160GB is enough he said, and it's RAID too, like my setup.

Please respond. Some of you may like Core 2 Duo better, but this is mine and his choice. but besides that, does this look good for what he and his son does?

Thanks,
-Azn

looks good to me might want to go for a AM2 processor with 1mb cache on each core though, i heard they are coming back to AM2

The price jump isn't worth it though, $429 for 2.0Ghz, 2x1MB cache, instead of $187 2.2Ghz, 2x512Kb cache. Too much of a price jump.

Thanks for the response, anything else?

here are my thoughts
i dont think am2 is a better buy than a core 2 duo if u pick the right mainboard u can use ur old mainboard for quadcore (asus p5w dh for example)
but okay
cpu amd 3800+ (they oc very good my bro got his to 2.8) or core 2 duo e 6400 got it 2.85 atm my ram is blocking me....) or 6600
motherboard i would recommend an asus with a heatpipe system
the ram is fine
why dont u go with a x1900gt they have just dropped to >200euro and offer alot more performance (like 7900gt but better quality)
get a seasonic instead i have only heard the best of seasonic
scythe mine or infinity for the cpu scythe owns :)

The Asus does have the heat-pipe system.

The Asus does have the heat-pipe system.
he plays light games, like some RPGs at 1280x1024 and 1024x768, well his son, so it's all good IMO, and the 7600GS overclocks pretty good too.

We might change to Core 2 Duo, maybe. But what motherboard would support future processors (Kentfield?)

but your overclocked gt will still be beaten by a stock x1900gt (which u can get to xt while we are at it...)
asus p5w dh does

If the current 975X motherboards will support Core 2 Duo along with Quad-Core Kentsfield for the future, I'll tell my uncle about it.

He might go Core 2 Duo, so everything might change! I'll talk to him, and show him benchmarks. Some people are saying that most motherboards that support Core 2 Duo will support Quad-Core Kentsfield, so he might go Core 2 Duo way.
i can tell you that a asus p5w dh deluxe will support quadcore for sure
but why should everything change? the only thing that will change is your mainboard and your cpu
btw the asus p5w dh is crossfire ready so it might be the perfect mb for your uncle

doom
i not sure when they are coming out but i know that they are comming :p
i dont know which mainboard u have got and after reading your system specs i am not smarter
if u have not got ur mb go with an asus p5w dh deluxe
it will (as i said) support quadcore for sure and crossfire

edit: not all 975x mainboards will supports kentsfield thats because they have changed something about the voltages or smth also alot of 975x mainboards (the older ones) dont even support core 2 duo a bios update works on the newer ones but (HERE COMES THE BUT)
if u get an older bios u have to update with an old intel cpu or contact the shop you bought it from
thats gay ²
i am off its like 3:30 am here in ger i need my sleep
i ll check this thread out when i am back to help you as good as i can
regards

I have a Pentium D 820 here, so i can flash, but it might be a hassle.
