This thread is for X1600PRO AGP/PCIE users only. Just want to know about the maximum clocks that you guys have and the coolers and experiences. I have a clocked X1600 PRO agp

ATI-tool
Core:500.00-->600.75
Memory:405.00-->421.20
GPU Temperature:68-72
Coolers:Stock Cooler

The maximum memory i could get was only 428 :cry: If i go over that, the black screen of death appears and i have to restart my computer. For the maximum core i did not go over 600 due to the temperatures of the GPU hitting 70+. Anyone know the safe temperature for a X1600PRO? Thanks... There were frequent hiccups. So what does this sign shows?

The gpu just hang after playing F.E.A.R in multiplayer games. Trying my core at 580.50 now. Will update about it.

Everything went smoothly at 580.50 for my core speed. Strangely not much people use X1600 here? lol..

i'm not sure why they're funny like that, could be from the omega driver. I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to overclocking with the omega driver. Or should i just get CCC 6.9?

Everything looks normal. Just use the omega drivers. I dont ever believe CCC cause they just suck. Btw welcome to the Techpowerup! family. Your first post here =)

what kind of frame rates are you getting in FEAR? Or other games you have.

x1600xt

I bought a saphire (wish id got the 512} 256mb x1600xt at the first of this year , on a budget @165. well i have looked to increase the performance and there isn't much out there . I will say that i have had success with the riva tuner & the latest ccc 6.9 even though riva doesn't support that driver. It seems to work well but then i am not pushing it i am only at 600/700, and all i play is an old game by the name of MOHAAS. great card for video / all around but the x800xt is much better and now the prices are well within reach of all of us .

You could nearly get to 600core? Wow thats like 150mhz + for an XT and 200 increase for a PRO.

Get the crappy stock TIM off your core and replace with AS5 agility, that'll help a LOT, plus, use ATi tool 0.25b to set fan speed according to temp'. I told it to try and maintain 55-60 Deg' Centigrade and sitting on the desktop it was stopped! Good core, I was hitting 614.75MHz on the agp version and not even going over 65 Deg' C after an hour's gaming...

card: sapphire x1600 AGP 256 MB (88-2C85-03-SA)

Max Ram speed 477 MHz (higher than that -> freeze)
Max Core speed 600,75 MHz (did not test any higher than, that but I thing there is some air up)

Equipment:
standart sapphire cooling with a papst fan on the backside of the card added (the backside of the card is the problem side)
all that in a airflow optimized self builded case.

Becareful of your GPU. That temperature is very high for an X1600.

I had 90°C core temp in summer (in my normal pc case without overclocking)when it was 36°C here in germany and sapphire said this is a normal temp for a AGP version - I Know the PCIe is not that hot.

that thing runs up to 86°C without overclocking in my old case when I play long sessions and now I have 78°C with overclocking

the core was in idle by 68°C bevor and now with the rebuild airflow concept in the new case its about 58°C

screen -> normal temp

I strongly suggest you remove the heatsink and reapply your own thermal paste. How can the stock coolers get so hot?

lol he is fine ive run my cards above 100c for extended periods of time they are all fine ;) (stock voltage)

he could improve his temps if he wanted to though

just out of curosity i was kinda expectin clocks close to that of a x1800 out of these x1600 cores what voltage are you dudes runnin? (thats adjustable in ati tool right?)

I have no idea of what voltage's i am running ?

I tried Ati tool and i like it for other cards radeon 9250/9550/x700 when i got this x1600 i couldn't oc? so this Riva tuner and the latest ccc 6.9 let's me turn it up i have watched my temps and with the stock cooler it does well i have turned it up more than what is posted but it hardlocked @630/1556 yeah . so it's @594/1404 stable .

just a note i started messin with it after runin it stock for 6 months cause a friend got a rig with nvidia7900gs in sli when i would see him the game it was really like he had an advantage , i know these x1600 arent much but since i have increased my clock speeds i am doing better aganst him & i am happy ! I do plan for a real allout gaming card one day though .

Running ANY electrical device that hot will shorten it's lifespan, that's not negotiable! The stock TIM is crap on EVERY gfx card I've ever seen, no point cooking the poor thing and driving the flux outta the solder joints now is there?

Ok im a bit new to Overclocking, i just learned how to overclock my processor. Ok before my question here is my current rig(and be easy i built this sucker in the month prior to World of Warcrafts' release and was on a one month budget lol):

ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
AMD 63 3200+(over clocked)
Sapphire X1600 Pro(512MB)AGP
Western Digital 120GB HD
1GB Giel Ram

Ok i downloaded ATITool because i wanted to OC my video card. What i want ot know is how to go about doing that. So far i have these steps:

1. Run Find Max Core for about an hour right? well what happens after an hour? Does ATITool stop automatically or do i have to stop it?

2. Once Find Max Core is finished i bring down the Core speed by 10MHz-20MHz then run Find Max Memory and let it run for an hour correct?

I think thats basically it, i want ot know if whether ATITool will stop running by itself or not?? I m wondering because i let it run and it was hitting up to 583MHz so i stopped it thinking it might just keep going. I read the documentation and it states that it will run until it finds 2 or more artifacts, then it will bring it back down a few MHz then run until stable then does it just stop on its own?? Just asking because at this point im a bit scared to let it keep running on its own and would just like some advice from those that have done the runs

NOTE: forgot to mention that i stopped it at about 590MHz because i started to see "artifacts" on the screen that came and went which is what scared me.

70+c is just not healthy for an ati card. unless its an x1800\1900 series. deffinately replace thermal compound and lap the cooler base if it needs it.

dont be moronic nothing needs proving in this case to know 70c+ is unhealthy. to start with theres the solder flux to consider, at 70c+ you can be pretty damn certain its going to start softening at the very least. then theres going to be heat dissipation issues, individual physical component tolerences and the core itself. excessive heat inevitably leads to soi damage, just the same as excessive cold.

How do ya get the voltage increase's with a x1600?

Woah bud.. why do you gotta go and call me a moron??

Alright, by your own admission (which was imo unfounded [being the reason for my post]) you said that a x1900 could handle "high" temps when a x1600 could not. (that makes no sence) a simpler device based a cut down design on the same mfg process should have a higher heat envelope on average. Though i'm open to being proven wrong.

Btw your max temp really depends on where you have your clocks and voltage set. I could get one of my x1900s to work fine at 40c and crash at 45c with the right clocks and voltage. But each of my x1900s would prolly need a different configuration to attain that effect cause not all cards are created equal.

As you add heat a semi conductor becomes less effecient. Which means you need to ither lower the clocks, lower the temp, or raise the voltage. Each of these variables has a limit and is affected by the other varables.

How do ya get the voltage increase's with a x1600?
if it isnt in the latest ati tool beta than you may have to do a hard mod if you really want it

though if it isnt in ati tool it is prolly on its way :)

I dont think that increasing the voltages with ATI-tool is possible. Probably in the later series or so.

Even ATi CCC can get you mem to 468:respect:

An here are my clocks:
