Look how much stress a heatsink can put on the motherboard! A plastik backplate doesn't help much, so use a metal one if you can.

Celeron D 2.66GHz with Intel boxed heatsink.

I got that on my Pentium D 820 Media Center, it has to be on low RPM to be acceptable in a living room.

Those Intel boxed coolers clamp down with quite a bit more force than any AMD cooler I have ever used.

and my particular model spun so fast it lost some fan blades and was quite explosiastic

nice pictures. I sure hope that mainboard was busted before you cut that out.

yea the stock cooler does strain the board. But there are coolers out there that do worse. I am using one: The Thermal Orb 2. It strains the board even more, but still works.

cheers

I dunno about that, ever try clamping a cooler on an Athlon XP? I thought I was going to break the damned mobo.

Yeah the socket A mounting scheme was pretty bad, but the clips went to the socket rather than the board. It takes a lot of force to push down the levers on the intel box cooler, which in turn pulls directly on the mobo mounts.

PS: I chipped a few Athlons back in the socket A days... exposed die.
