Seems like an ok machine - should be good enough to play GTA without a problem, I've heard the X1300XT is an ok card for the price. Haven't heard of many 12 year old girls that play GTA, but a guess there are a few!

I'm assuming that if he has a hard drive he has an OS?

I got that RDX200 a year ago when it was brand new and it was buggy as hell then. Unless the bugs have been worked out since, I wouldn't recomend it. I ended up exchanging mine for this Ultra-D.

$319.09 shiped anyone think they can buid a better machine for 300 usd?

eggs site seems to have stalled out or i would be posting a few diffrent options.

first i dont think u need crossfire, dosnt sound like shes gonna use it for anything that would warrent crossfire tho the price for the boards pretty good.

cpu is more then is needed really, why bother with such low latancy ram, shes not gonna know the diffrance(only us bench marking fools could tell)

video card is more then enought for casual gamers, nothing grand but hey its 80bucks.

case, well my buddy has one under a diffrent name(same case just diffrent brand name) and its ok, the plastic face/top are not black plastic, they are bage plastic painted black(same with the silver parts) and scratch very easly.

i will post my configs as gif images(black and white ofcorse.)

first will be corssfire ready everything retail.

one of the kool things about this first board is the fact that its 20pin atx not 24 so any psu you got thats not total shat is gonna work.

the 2nd one has 2x the ram(1gb) same video, but insted of a crossfire retail board its got an open box sli board(they where/are out of the one i was gonna list) asus board, it normaly runs 94bucks, its 58 open box, the only thing close in price thats retail is the ecs nforce4 board, but i know alot of people fear ecs due to bad word of mouth or bad exp with certen models.
in my exp most newegg open box boards are perfectly fine, out of 15+ we have bought in the last 2 years 1 was bugged, and it was a bug in the whole run of that board, foxconn replaced it no questions asked, even sending a better ver of the board as replacment, you have 15 days to send any open box item back to newegg, and with boards you can alwase rma to the maker if you need to(unlikely), if they are missing the back plate(not to common in my exp) most makers will send you one free if you say your NEW board didnt come with one, hell foxconn, biostar, ecs, and epox all sent me back plates for boards i got 2nd hand from system pulls without hassles, foxconn even sent me extra cpu brackets for 2 754 boards i had when ones backplate was lost(i lost it), if you can get that kinda service from "low end" brands you should expect it from asus, msi, gigabyte, abit and the like.

sorry im being long winded, 56k gives me time to type as i search for part configs.

there are 2 up for now, may do another once i get a project done for a buddy.

also you may want to consider just using a c7 1.5gz itx board with onboard everything, the onboard video is very good for video playback and as onboard go's its decent for games, since shes 12 shes not gonna be playing high res games anyway, and the c7 use very little power, far less then anything amd and intel make!
i setup 2 of the 1.5gz ones and damn i was shocked at how fast they are for windows xp and basic games, halo, nfs(cant remmber number), black and white and some others all ran very well once i updated the video driver( dumbass me forgot to do that every time) and the systems where all in uber small cases 3 in cubes 1 was put togather in a small wooden box we got at michels craft shop, cut the back out with a dremil for the back of the board, used a micro psu(200watt) an 80gb sata hdd and a low profile dvd combo drive( 1/2 high of normal 5.25 bays) things kool looking and caust us around 350 to make including painting the box for the little grrl we made it for(mostly for music and school work, but she also plays ragnarok online and silkroad online with it on a 15in lcd)

sorry i was so long winded, egg stalled out 3 times tonight, think they are overloaded :p
