x-fi increases fps amazingly if you use the x-fi right it will boost performance and look pretty

Yes i'm a gamer, I play CS:S and BF2142 mostly, but i'll play anything that games across my plate.

Also i'm heavy into music (never stop listening to something) got 75GB on shuffle.

Also watch DVDs on my PC.

I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic now, but its busted. Thing makes a loud boom through my z-5500's every so often. It's still in warranty, so i'm gonna RMA it through creative, and probably sell it.

the chip used is VERY good, and you can get regularly updated drivers from the cmi forums!!!
if you find a driver problem, you just ask on forums for help and you get it FAST, creative, well ask and wait till hell freezes over.

read ket's post about the x-fi/creative and why not to buy!!!

Before saying that, learn a bit more. It DOES Increase FPS. First off, intergrated Audio leech performance off the CPU.

learn more yourself, current breeds of onboard audio at worst use 1-5% cpu in short bursts, thats realtek non hd audio.

hdaudio uses 1-3% max with up to date drivers, x-fi acctualy can endup using more cpu if the program/game wants to do something that the card dosnt support in hardware mixing, and creative cards are not a better choice then other addin cards on the market, creative driver and hardware support is ASSS!!!!! its like dealing with a bunch of retards who are smoked up on pot and doing acid, when you finnly do get a responce it dosnt do you any good!!!!!

older onboard audio sucked, but current stuff is decent to good, infact better then many older cards, and even better then some cards you can buy now(sb live 24bit!!!!) even realtek 8ch non hd audio codecs are better then sblive24bit!!! and they come free with older motherboards!!!!!(better if you use current driver sets not the ones off the cd that is)

The point was never integrated but was the xfi card and in actual fact especially with a dual core cpu there is no hit on CPU performance in any case, there used to be once upon a time but things have changed over the last year or 2. One core runs the game the other does not break into a sweat over the odd 3-5% cpu "twitch".

no difference from x-fi and other hardware encoding.

but!!! x-fi can handle more voices, therefore more intenser sound. <---which can be a plus only with quality speaker setup.
