From ATI. Please note this is the 12th or so responce from them? It sounds more like a second responce.
"We apologize for the automated response. However, as this method resolves the majority of customer queries, it is a necessary step that allows our technicians to be able to provide a response within a reasonable amount of time. If the response does not resolve your issue, it will be answered by a technician on your next reply.
After reviewing your other ticket, how can you say there is no performance difference when your 3dmark score jumped over 1000 points with Crossfire enabled? Games should definitely be showing improvements with Crossfire enabled though. Have you changed any of the graphical settings after Crossfire is enabled?
Crossfire mode is running in the compositing mode as opposed to alternate frame rendering. With your logic, in Crossfire, you would be expecting a score 3 times as high as with Crossfire disabled. Unfortunately, Crossfire will not give you a that big of a performance boost.
With Crossfire enabled, the 1950 in the primary would get hot as opposed to the one in the secondary slot. The one in the primary slot does a lot more work than the secondary board. The secondary board is basically crunching numbers and feeding it to the primary card that composites, sets up all the display and puts all the rendering in to the screen.
For any games you are testing, please ensure that you have the most up to date patches available from them. Ensure that you have updated to the latest chipset available from the chipset manufacturer.
If all else has been done and problem is still occuring, it would be time to submit feedback to our Catalyst Crew."
This was after the fact that the tech department told me twice that they would rebuild my computer piece by piece at there -shop- to recreate the problem. They have yet to do so. My responce was as follows.
"With your logic" ?? Who elses logic do I have? ATI's? It's been weeks now and I've been told twice by the tech department that they would be build my pc's configuration to figure out the problem and get back to me. See also ticket 737-1161331. Anyways... I figured it out. I now know what the problem is AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN. My 3dmark06 score is now 8906. I was right and Crossfire WAS NOT working. NOW crossfire is working. NOW the second card is hot. So if your done patronizing me with lame excuses and would like instead to work WITH me and apologize to me for all the delays and put-offs I'll gladly share the information with you. Point is there is RECREATABLE problem with crossfire and rather then working thru it with me you put it off. No personal offence but ATI's 7.1 drivers suck. 6.12 was much better. Maybe you fixed the WMV Avivo issues in 7.1 but I didn't test those as I went back to 6.12 right away.
On a positive note I would like to thank a man named Mark in the technical department. He was the ONE PERSON that actually put out an effort trying to help me and it was most appreciated!! The industry needs more people with his positive problem solving attitude. THANK YOU MARK!!

I have figured out the problem as being CPU related. Crossfire did not work with a P4ht@4ghz or with a P4d@3ghz. It took a Core2duo@2.4 to make crossfire functional. Most of you will know the ongoing thread I had about this problem "Crossfire problems and solutions" To repeat some of it I tested 4 motherboards, 3 sets of ddr-2, 2 cpus, 2 sets of x1950 pros, and 2 different PSUs. The secondary card stayed ICE COLD. now the secondary card is as "toastingly functional" as the primary.
I just thought some of you might like to read this. Have fun.
EDIT - I forgot to mention my 3dmark score jumped from 9500 to 18,000 when crossfire finally worked. 1000 was an improvement to them...
