Do you plan on getting a second 1950pro someday? if so than just get 256mb one for now. I find some games ask for more memory like the RTS game I play, Company of Heros.

This is my inexperienced help.. I know your not looking for dx10 but maybe you could go that route if the prices are right on the mid range cards, nividia has em coming out soon and ati should have a midranged card in like 3 months.

It looks like normally dx10 cards preform alot better than dx9 cards in dx9 games.

I take it those are USD prices in Singapore.

hes in Singapore so his prices are higher.. a 8800gts 640mb is prob like 600usd there. maybe he should get a single pci-e board and a 8800gts 320mb or something similar.

How much is the 8800s over there Agility?

you could probably get a c2d 6300 and a board like mine and OC it to speeds faster than the best current amd cpu.

Consider that im in your part of the world and an e6400 is like $280 - $300
Thats 2.1ghz that can be pushed at least to 3.2 without worries.

Well the 8800GTS 320MB is worth around $500 SGD here. C2D are freaking expensive here... C2D E6300 costs $303SGD.
C2D E6400 Costs $373.
C2D E6700 Costs $525.

500sgd is 320usd 1.5sgd = 1usd not to bad and when r600 gets released it will prob drop in price or go on sale.

that mobo ain't very good too (for overclock), look for other crossfire am2 boards

Go with dx10 so you wont need to upgrade for years. 8800gts hopfully the 8600 hasnt done to well with its 64bit bus.

I think 8800gts or wait until the midrange ati cards come out, that will have better mem bus prob than the 8600.

and as pt said maybe look for another cf/sli board, or one without cf if you cant find a good overclocking budget cf/sli board. PT knows his amd stuff.

Well...prices on AMD AM2 parts and Intel parts have come down so...

If you go AM2 - you could look at Gigabyte, Higher end Asus (Commando?? not sure what there gaming AM2 board is) and Abit.

If you go 775 - you can look at evga's board, intel 975x badaxe2 mobo or asus boards.

Video cards - probably best to go DX10, since this is a new build. I know its going to be a little expensive, but the 8800 gts 320mb is probably best bang for buck right now. No risk in actually bottlenecking it with either proc. Crossfire is nice and so is SLI. Ive used SLI, awesome...but now Im on crossfire. It just depends on what YOU decide (not us) and how comfortable you are with it. Either platform will last you for 3 years. Really.

Is that memory ULTRA memory? If so, I would recommend going with Adata, OCZ, Corsair, Patriot or something like that. I personally have never had much luck with Ultra. Kingston is a nice one as well.

Honestly, if you are going with AMD, just get an X2-3600 Brisbane. Nearly all will go to 3.0GHZ and they are $65 right now.

Well i'm kinda in a dilema...cause ATI always drag thier ati cards and gives crappy drivers. While nvidia always boasts its stupid DX10 and it's been nearly half a year and we can't see it work. For the processors i'm fine with them.
