They still need something to replace the 7900GT, IMO. Something that is still single slot and still reasonably sized, but still packs a massive punch.

I can't wait to see how these things overclock, especially the 8800GTS, I would love to see it hitting 1200MHz(and my guess is it might be possible). That would mean the 8600GTS memory bandwidth would start to match that of some of the x1950 series cards even though the 8600GTS only has 128-bit memory.

I am still going to wait until both sides have their DX10 cards out and Vista is more mature before making the DX10 leap though.

but doesn't the 128bit bottleneck it a bit?

still think the initial starting price for the 8600 GTS is a little high, but the GT is a little high too, but it will settle as Darksaber said. There is a huge difference in the 8800 and 8600 series. But it looks like ATI finally has some midrange and low range segment competition with competitive prices.

They need to come up with 8800GT (64 Pixel Shaders/Vertex Pipes & 16 ROPs) for 299$, that would be a great card and a seller. I'd say the 8600 series is a flop, but let's see the benchies first.
