Are all your drivers for chipset, vid. card, etc., all good and up to date? Did you re-install windows after upgrading? Got everything tweaked, and unessecary processes turned off? Did you install the dual-core optimizer? Just some ideas...

those 1950 scores looked a bit low to me, especially the SM3 scores.

Anyhow, here's a collection of scores we had running a while back, you can get a good idea of what kind of score you should be looking round-abouts for based on your CPU and 1950 GPU:

and same here, across all GPUs and CPUs:

+1 on that. TBH, the 1950s will show a ton of improvement the higher you can take BUS speeds, but don't neglect the small stuff.

Also, you can try other Catalyst drivers, too. There have been a couple of driver releases that killed performance for the X1950 series (Cat 7.7, anyone?! :wtf:). Most will agree that 7.6 was the best release for performance - 7.7 and 7.8 were horrible, slowing the cards down something stoopid. I haven't yet run 3m06 to see how Cat 8.1 compares to some of the last releases of last year, though.

Have you tried increasing the PCI-E frequency to 105Mhz?

eveyrthing is upto date 8.1 ccc, directx 10, didnt reinstall after upgrading, ive been tweaking the ht link speed made a huge difference in game performance, when i up my bus and lower multi i either cant boot or if i do crashes when doing the 3dmark test, having a hard time o/c the cpu, but if this number is suppose to be higher maybe i need to reinstall windows? i dont see any conflicts or anything under device manager.

i was told not go go past 101

I've been to 110Mhz with no adverse affects. If anything I get better performance at 105Mhz, but nothing after that.

From my testing of it, I also saw slightly better performance at 105, and every setting after that (highest I could go was 135) was the same.

Best performance, I found for my setup, was to leave it set to [AUTO], and let the BIOS adjust as need be.

crap...that is BAD news (for me) apparently :( :(

this is the problem: I have a DUAL CORE cpu (brisbane, 4400+) meant to function with an HT of 1000MHZ

problem is my mainboard only supports up to 4X HT multiplier (that means 800MHZ maximum)

which means right now my setup is running with an HT speed of only 800MHz

so according to accordpower99's post my cpu & setup are not running @ their full potential

see the problem is so far I've read that HT link speed has almost no effect on performance simlply because even the PCI-Express bus (4gb/s) cannot match an HT speed of 1000MHZ (which is 8Gb/s), meaning that and HT of 1000Mhz (or even half that) is overkill for today's setups

that was good news, but now accordpower99's post contradicts EVERYTHING, EVERY single bench I've read on the net about the effect of HT link speed on performance :(

this means my mainboard sux, right ? :( it claims to support HT2000 CPUs (meaning CPUs meant for 1000MHz HT) but the maximum HT speed is only HT1600 (that's 800MHZ) and according to accordpower99's post this means my board does not FULLY support HT2000 CPUs since there IS a performance loss (unlike what other reviewers on the net claim)

btw accordpower99> you changed the HT link speed from 800mhz to 1000mhz by changing the multiplier from 4x to 5x in the bios, right ?

are you absitively sure the HT link speed is the only thing you changed ? :(
did CPU clock, RAM clock, AGP clock & CPU multiplier remain the same ?

crap...that is BAD news (for me) apparently :( :(

well im not contridicating anyone, but i made posts up here about why my new 6400 x2 with faster ram was running slower graphics on games like madden, need 4 speed pro street etc. i couldnt figure it out, when i switched from 800 to 1000 mhz, it was like night and day seriously. i almost reformated the hdd i was so fed up tryin to figure it out. :banghead: but dont know about your situation im running at 200 fsb @ 1000mhz ht.
:D

HERES THE OTHER POST I WAS REFERING THIS PROBLEM IN.

it only gives me intervals of 200 400 800 1000 and auto. nothing else, ram timings are as listed but its already been that way before i change the ht link. My 3dmark06 scores went up also after doing so.

so you're sure only the HT speed changed, nothing else ?

everyone on the net, every review so far has said that HT speed has next to zero impact on performance (including 3D games) and they based this on the fact that today's setups can't even "come close to saturating the Hypertransport bus" or something like that (even with PCI-express 16X cards)

but now I read this thread, so I guess what happened to you must be a paranormal mystery or something

now I must absolutely find a way to force my HT speed to 1000mhz outside the bios
is there any way I can do it in windows?
