I'd rather post all my cool comments here, so everyone can read them, even after a few years.
My comments are worth keeping.

Though an IRC server should be manageble, should have our dearest W1zzard decide (and set it up:p) though :)

IRC would definately be nice.. Quick and simple enquiry would be nice for some users.. Java chatrooms might pose problems with dial-ups as they're slow (sometimes it's slow on P3 PCs too, based on my experience).. normal IRC client access would be great..

Doesnt the java applet log in to some irc server anyway? doesnt that mean u can connect using any other irc client?

Ya.. I know.. But sometimes they force the users to use the Java IRC applet only, because they didn't put up the server/channel settings.. :(

But perhaps ppl will hang around in it all day long wizzicle, perhaps itll stimulate growth?

and as far as forcing java applats concerns, its plain racism, u cant deny a client based on its language.

Erm.. EFnet or other servers that are quite popular and reliable..
DALnet is a little bit restricted though...

IRCnet? (Never used it..)
DALnet should be fine but it is a little bit limited (eg, no file hosting/transfer, I think)..

sorry to be a post necro, but... if you're looking for an IRC network thats not overflowing with script kiddies or netsplits or anything, i'm an IRCOp on irc.mindphukd.org. we've got the same services as other networks, but none of the incessant annoying people :)
just an offer :)
