Tonight I'm going to do a run at 3.8ghz, and see if I can push the core speed and memory a bit more. I don't think I can do much more with the shaders...I'm shooting for 14K. One thing that amazes me is the temps. It idles at 32c and only made it to 57c during my last 3dmark06 run.

Plus you do have more systems ram than I do for the CPU part of the test 4gb mine 2 gb. Your ram should do more than that Paul. My clock on the bench was 723 core/ 1825 shaders/ 1000. Still it looks like your have a slightly better card than I do so far. I posted my bench again so they can be compared with out flipping pages.

lol i dont understand why everyone is making this a huge compitition really...i mean ppl wanted the 8800GS to win and ppl wanted the 9600 to win but it will never be solved because no body has the same config...i used my proc as an example...and your ram isnt fast enough.....id say the cards are pretty much even...though i would lean more tword the 9600 because of the ram chips.....but if you have an 8800GS and a 9600GT next to each other with the same chips...though highely unlikely because i think the 9600 uses 1ns..but if they were the same...id just go for what ever one was cheaper...

For me the competition is just fun. I never get worked up by any of it. It's just like all the benches we do around here. It's to see how good our hardware is, and how it compares to everyone else. The only time it's not fun is when people take the stuff way too serious. Getting back on topic, I think I might just break 14k by this weekend...

I think I can probably go higher with the core too...maybe in the 800 range. I'll give it a shot tonight.

acutally your getting close to the 900 range....gpu-z reads it a couple mhz off....740 in gpu-z is a little over 800mhx...750 is like 863...if you use rivatuner look at the monitor it will give you what the core is running at...you may be able to go higher but your getting real close to the cards limit...infact your kinda alerady at the standard limit any higher and its basically just depending on the silicon.

i really wish i had a core 2 thngs would be amazing then.

Yeah, I meant to ask about the discrepancies b/t Rivatuner and gpu-z, then I went back and read some posts. I'll have to check Rivatuner tonight and see what it's truly running at. Well, to the limit then...hopefully I'll still squeeze a few mhz out of it. I am sure I can get a bit more out of the memory. I just went a little conservative, dropping the memory when I was getting some artifacts in 3dmark06. Come to find out it was the shaders causing the artifacts. The card didn't like 1998.

ya i tried pushing 2ghz shader it wouldnt it stable for me at 1900 not a mhz further.

For the record I increased the voltage with a soft mod with almost zero improvement in my stable 24/7 clock. I can run individual clocks higher like 780 core 24/7 with ram and shaders down at default etc, but if I mix the overclocking I get lock ups. This should not happen really all a 8800 gs is, is a 8800 gt with two ram chips removed and bus made smaller. It should do core 800 / shaders 1850/ ram 2000 but really will only do 700/1740/2000. The temps are really low even with the voltage mod. I think nivida did bios lock these cards. Bastards lol. At 680 to 700 and anyone who says different is not stressing their cards enough. Mine artifacts at anything higher than 700 when i mix the overclocking, yet individually my core runs stable a 780 etc, but before the bios flash it was only stable at 740 etc. The bios has been screwed with I can tell. If you think your stable at over 700 (significantly not 705) use atitools artifacting tool to stress your card then post a screen shot. I got to see it to believe it.

max for the physical chip and mem appears to be ~860mhz core and 1100mhz for the memory with no volt mod....the voltages if i remember correctly range from 1.1idle to ramping up to 1.15 during stress the cards can reach ~1.4v core with a vmod...however a couple of us are having problems with OCP atm so the volt mod being stable is teh limited.

ppl are having alot of problems it seems referance ad reg cards differ alot some ppl cant make it past 1.15v without the card shutting down others can boot and game at 1.45..

I didn't really get what you ment trt, but I did it ati tools for a couple of minutes until the temp line balanced out, while I was watching a movie and defragmenting my harddrives lol.
