9800 GX2 on the tests, and the author of the first use of the X48 Gigabyte motherboards for evaluation, and in the whole evaluation process, the AMD-ATi R680 in the X48 on the completion of all testing, and only through the GeForce 9800GX2 3DMark2006 tests, tests in the game suggested that the game is wrong or that there Lanping, since 9800 GX2 need to open SLi mode to maximize performance, we know that the Intel chips on the motherboard does not support the SLi, and we do not rule out the possibility in 9800 GX2 and Intel chip on the motherboard compatibility issues will still exist as well. Application of course, can be stabilized to the Intel chip platform, and we have no precise official said, we do not rule out the possibility of driver compatibility issues.

And later we adopted nVIDIA chip platform Asustek Striker II Formula (nVIDIA 780i), the GeForce 9800GX2 will be able to successfully complete the test. And the AMD-ATi Radeon HD 3870X2, both in X48 or 780 i, to maintain stable operation and results, from this point we feel that the ATi R680 on the compatibility or have certain advantages

Interesting indeed. Really the first positive gx2 benchies we've seen. Still though, bang for buck works out less than the x2, and I'm still curious to see if 2 gts 512 can perform equally.

They had problems getting the GX2 to work in a X48 MB. Also, they state that you must enable SLI in order to use the GX2. So that leaves me asking if the GX2 was designed to work with a nvidia motherboard only. I never heard of an issue like this being a driver level problem

Guess it's a release driver bug. We don't know if NV is releasing it with the driver that guy used. But yes, it's interesting. Intel/AMD chipset = no SLI. But the SLI issue could be not pertaining to the motherboard chipset at all and could be to the NForce 200 (the lane arbiter chip on the cards?)? I'm not sure.

Also, we're yet to have a HD3870 X2 revision that comes with GDDR4 and/or the PCI-E 2.0 lane switch from PLX...a development W1z was pointing at in his review.

The problems with the non-nVidia chipests probably does come down to the driver not being perfect, just like the AA issues. NVidia probably hasn't perfected SLI being enabled with non-SLI chipsets.

I want to see what it does after a few driver releases.

Maybe, but there are some MacGyver drivers that let you run two cards on an X38 / 975P, etc.

...the drivers are custom and are buggy but goes on to show someone other than NV has learnt the art of making such drivers work before they could.

WOW! If true, those results are impressive! It's the first time I see Crysis playable at 1920x1200. There's obviously some sort of issues with the drivers though. Obviously they have issues with AA, but I wonder if no-AA results are having some little troubles too? I mean if they fix the problem no-AA results will see an overall improvement too?

Anyway GX2 is shaping very well in this review. A lot better than what I thought. Now the new $600 price point seems more feasible and "justifiable" as not only is the fastest card, but by a good margin. Now it won't be just pay extra $200 for the braggin rights.

i still think nvidia is humoring ATi, its just hilarious cos every time they compete, they win, and yeah they're products are always on the pricier side, but they're always on top too

i want to mod a 9800gtx or 9800gx2 i want to really mod the dual gpu one...because that would be something new for me...trying to get voltages higher and stable on 2 cores with the possabnility of their only being 1 voltage chip.....oooooo my soldering iron is already heating up.

The 8000 vs HD 2000 was the only round that nvidia won. The previous gens ATi won all of them I think(X1k beat 7k, x100 beat 6000, 9k beat FX5k)

You aren't going to need and SLI motherboard to use it. They just needed a SLI motherboard to get a pre-release sample to work with beta drivers. I have faith that nVidia will have the enabling SLI on non-SLI chipsets worked out in the driver before the card is released, perhaps this was the reason the card was delayed? Everyone speculated that it was a driver issue, perhaps it was this driver issue(and probably the AA issue).

I think that really depends on what you mean by "beat". If you mean who had the fastest card, ATi lost the x1k vs. 7k as nVidia's 7950GX2 walked all over the x1950XTX in terms of performance. If you mean price

erformance, then nVidia won that also. I would call the 6000 vs X series a draw.
