PC turns on for a split second then shuts off

hrm...so the original symptom is that your PC would turn itself off after a couple of seconds. you reset the bios and now it doesnt shut down, but instead it just sits at the screen as it looks for a network address? try resetting your bios again.

ok now it magically works and detects my drive. Im defiantly saving up for a new drive this thing is so old..

Also its started to do a click when I turn it on. I read that one thread a few days ago where his drive died after that...

time to back up your files!!

A 3 months old HDD started to fail on me but I had time to back up my data, thank God. The Bios wouldn't detect it at times. I think that multiple reboots due to troubleshoting a new built killed it, combined to more reboots after freezes in Vista, not liking a Radeon 9100 IGP (integrated graphic processor).

HDD really are the Achiles heel of our computers I think. I try to back up my stuff every month, although I got lazy lately.. :D

Also, make sure your cpu cooler is properly installed. I had a case where the cooler wasn't firmly attached to the motherboard, as one of the pushpins wasn't properly inserted, which prevented the cpu from cooling down, and caused thermal protection shutdown after 10 seconds.

unplug all power suplly cables and check the 4 pin power cable for the mobo to be the right one....
